APD makes theft arrest

Published Wednesday, June 10, 2009

An Andalusia man was arrested Monday for allegedly robbing a female acquaintance at gunpoint earlier last week.

Dominic D. Watson II, 23, is accused of brandishing a firearm at a local woman, whose identity was not released, while she was attempting to leave the parking lot of a local business on June 3.

“The victim alleges Mr. Watson pulled a gun on her and took an undisclosed amount of cash from her person,” Lt. Mike Bowlan of the Andalusia Police Department said. “The incident happened in a parking lot of a local business near the west bypass.

“The victim in the incident recognized her assailant, who we know was Dominic Watson II,” he said.

Watson is charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree theft of property. He was booked into the Covington County Jail and held on a $23,000 bond.

Bowlan warned residents incidents such as this could occur more frequently in the future.

“With the economy going down, I anticipate crime to increase everywhere,” he said. “Shoppers need to be attentive to their surroundings — especially if you’re shopping in place that is not familiar to you. Make sure your doors are locked, your valuables secured and protect your wallets and identification.”

What does the use of a firearm in a robbery get you in bama? Now give the gun to the person he robbed and call it "GUN CONTROL"
