6-under Babe Ruth regional tourney canceled
Published Monday, June 29, 2009
Andalusia Director of Leisure Services Dwight Mikel confirmed Monday that the 6-under Babe Ruth regional tournament originally scheduled to begin Thurs., July 2, has been canceled.
Mikel said the tournament was originally going to include 24 teams from seven states, but as of Monday, only four teams had confirmed they would make the trip. Mikel said it is not financially viable for the city to host a tournament with so few teams.
The 14-under, 16-under and 18-under Babe Ruth regional tournaments, scheduled to begin on Thurs., July 16, will still go on as planned.
See the Tues., June 30, edition of The Andalusia Star-News for the complete story.

Our girls have put in to much time and practice in this heat for Mr.Mikel to just cancel this tournament. If there is only 4 teams I say let them play!!!
After all it should not be about money.....it should be about the girls.
They have fun and look forward to playing and this just crushes them to find out they will not be playing any games because the city will not put up the money for the tournament.
The 6-under T-ball girls are just as important as the older kids!! I think the city should let them play!!!!

i think andalusia has come up with a solution for the games.
we will play with the teams in our area. don't get me wrong i agree that money should not be a question. these girls have put in alot of sweat and tears for this and i think andalusia should see it through. GO OPP!!
