Proponents say 'Sweet Home Alabama' gambling bill dead

Published Tuesday, May 5, 2009

MONTGOMERY (AP) — Key legislators say the highly advertised "Sweet Home Alabama" gambling bill is dead for this session because it doesn't have enough support to pass in the Senate.

The Senate Rules Committee chairman, Democrat Lowell Barron of Fyffe, says he's not going to put the bill on the Senate's work agenda during the session's closing days because it is several votes short of passage.

A sponsor, Democratic Rep. Marcel Black of Tuscumbia, agrees. He says there's no need for the House to consider the bill if it can't pass the Senate. Black predicts it will be back next year.

The bill is a proposed constitutional amendment to tax, regulate and expand electronic bingo. It was promoted in a statewide advertising campaign featuring country music stars, including Alabama singer Randy Owen.

Well dar ya go... Alabama stays in the past and the people suffer. This is a living hell the tax payers are going through, The state is in debt the counties are going broke, and Now a few that feel the FEAR of MAN decide to pass the buck. I did say the FEAR of MAN, See God does not want his children to suffer, Nowhere did God tell anyone that BINGO was a SIN. MAN said it was a SIN. As it has happened for 2009 years MAN rulez over GOD.

And yet all the holy rollers will continue to drive to Mississippi to the casino any chance they get, all the while with a "Say no to gambling" sticker on their vehicle bumper.
