Please, let us pray to God for this woman's recovery. May God's Will be done.

Pray that the woman will be okay. These also arises a question.

Why can't the county fire dept's get certified training from state instructors? This would help them reconize what to do in case something of this magnitude happens. Also, it will give them "fire dept" the knowledge on how to find a person inside and get them out.

Not sure if that would have saved the gentleman's life, but would have reduced the severity of the woman's injuries.

Dear "from above" - the county fire departments are ALL volunteer. They exist essentially on 3 mil tax monies and donations. The cost of diesel fuel and maintenance on the equipment is essentially what is covered. IF any training occurs, the costs have to absorbed by the department, paid for by members willing to take off of work to go to the training, or offered for free. I know people on one of the responding departments, and as I understand it - no amount of training would have helped in this situation, even for the woman. Thank God for those men and women who serve 24/7 - 365 with no pay, no gas reimbursment for the calls, meetings, and trainings that they attend, and the willingness to sacrifice thier lives and homelife for another.

Not to argue.. But this does raise an issue. Hundreds of volunteer fire and rescue depts.thruout the state of AL. Our volunteers give MORE than enough. There is NO REASON that the state cannot provide much needed training on a regular basis. Classroom on wheels. County by county. It is an investment in ourselves and saving the state money in the long run. Scrap an airplane, cancel a lunch, use that car one more year. Put the money into something that keeps giving and giving. OUR VOLUNTEERS... Thanks for a job well done....

dusty18: I'm in total agreement...if you watched the news on Thur, you know that Gov Riley vetoed some educational monies and signed for them to be put into the prison system...well, these funds could be put toward volunteer FDs and/or other volunteer orgs. I just don't see how we can continue to upgrade prisons...hell, they are prisons. Look at the Sheriff in Az who makes his inmates sleep in tents, grow/work gardens to supply their own food, and so many other things...AL could do at least part of these things. Then, we could better support our volunteers. Don't mean to get on a soapbox, just speak my opinion.
