Supreme Court denies appeal

Phillips headed to prison

Published Friday, October 9, 2009

The Supreme Court of Alabama has denied a request by former Covington County Probate Judge Sherrie Phillips to hear an appeal of her criminal conviction for the felony theft and ethics charges.

Her appellate bond requires her to surrender to the county sheriff within 15 days. Last November, she was sentenced to two concurrent sentences of 10 years, which were split for her to serve three years incarceration followed by three years of supervised probation.

With all the money she's stolen and stashed away all these years, I wouldn't be surprised if she skipped out and left the country. It's a shame she doesn't have to repay ALL the money she's stolen. If she does make it to prison, she's still living on stolen funds! Has justice really been served?

But I am glad to see that her appeals have failed!

There is a price to be paid for misuse of power, office and influence. This was an intelligent woman who had a good life, good career, but greed got the best of her. It's time to pay the price. I'm sure this will be difficult on her family, these are things Ms. P would have been smart to consider prior to committing fraudlent actions. Our society needs people with integrity and morals in positions of trust.
