Man, 21, tried to rob woman, 84

Published Monday, October 26, 2009

Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for assaulting and robbing an 84-year-old Andalusia woman after breaking into her Eighth Avenue home during last week’s homecoming parade.

Andalusia Police Department Investigator Tim Stallworth said the man, identified as 21-year-old Christopher Wilson, was apparently waiting for the homeowner when she returned from town.

“When she walked in, he was in there,” Stallworth said. “He surprised her from behind, pushed her down and hit her and demanded money from her.”

Stallworth said when the victim explained to Wilson that she didn’t have any money, he left.

“He was witnessed fleeing by several longtime residents of the area,” he said.

Luckily, the woman did not suffer any broken bones or permanent injuries, he said.

Wilson, who is charged with robbery, burglary, assault and criminal mischief, was taken into custody Friday evening and booked into the county jail under a $435,000 bond.

“For those in the future who feel they want to harm the elderly of our fair city, think again,” Stallworth said. “Acts of this nature are unacceptable and will be dealt with severely, as I think Mr. Wilson’s bond reflects.”

I am proud of the police for catching this animal and the judge for setting a bond so high I hope he can never make. I hope a lawyer can't get it reduced.

It costs appx $27,000 per year for a low life thug who hurt a $Billion citizen...why did they allow him to escape, then ?shoot? him in the back, on the run? Only the court could make a decision based on these facts. Think about it.

I am very proud to come from the great state of alabama where we value our 2nd ammendment. I hope the next home he enters, especially where the elderly or seemingly helpless are concerned, uses this right. Thank the good lord and the law that they caught him before he could hurt anyone else.

This is one time I agree with lookeyhere. No the boy ain't right waiting and watching for her to come home. They should add stalking to his charges since he was already there in her home. He probably been scoping her out for some time to get routine down and waited for what he thought would be the time to set his actions into plan. I am glad that she did not have physical injuries, but this will scar her emotionally. I do thank God that it turned out the way that it did and the scum was caught!!!

Yeah, but it must be awful to be that 21 year old who'd have to rob someone for loose change from an 84 year old woman? Then the public ridicule, followed by prison...

I mean, imagine having to be in that situation where this kind of robbery seemed actually plausible to you. That would be utterly bad.

lookeyhere: your post on October 27, 2009 at 7:53 a.m. just cracked me up. I laughed so hard that I had tears in my eyes and I'm still laughing while trying to type this.
This young man that did this is a sorry case and please don't anyone say that he just made a mistake. He plotted and waited on this poor lady to get home so there was no mistake. He deserves whatever he gets

To the Policeman/men who caught him and the Judge who set his bond, I sure would like to bake you boys a cake. Thank you so much. I live in the county, but that just makes me feel safe enough I would like to open my windows and doors at night and listen to the frog's. Oh for the 'good old day's' when you could do that.

THANKS AGAIN!!
