City of Florala needs a new police station

Published Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Dear Editor,

There’s something I would like to run by everyone. I was talking to our chief of police the other day about this. Since the rescue squad has a new station, and the fire department has a new station, why can’t our Chief of Police Sonny Bedsole and his department have a new police station to themselves? They could have a building where they could have their own jail, and we could get our dispatchers back, also.

So, I ask a question. Why couldn’t we tear down the old National Guard armory and have them build a new police station there? Maybe someone would help with the money, or somehow get a grant to help build them a really good building. I have already called someone and he told me the council would somehow have to argue a grant for this, and if the council got that grant then this person would also help, too. I think maybe our chief might know who I’m talking about — Seth Hammett.

They need a new police station. It would have a new jail to put the people they arrested in, and make them work out their fines on the roads. And like I said, bring our dispatchers back here like they were to start with.

It would save them some time and save them some money in the long run, instead of having to drive to the county jail and back.

So, someone come up with something and help get our chief a new police station and get our dispatchers back here. The old armory would be a good place to do this.

Ms. Dennis, that is a lucid, intelligent, well thought out observation and suggestion, .."Overruled"...I suggest you take these observations to the Florala Mayor and city council and choose another site than the historical Armory Building. Many of us like to attend the "New Heights Championship Wrestling" matches held every month there. New Heights Wrestling is watched around the whole world on "YOU TUBE" very frequently and has even attracted such entertainers this year, 2009,as Marty Jennetty. For those of you that do not know, Marty Janetty was Shaun Micheals partner of the famous "Midenite Rockers" on
WWE RAW which the rest of the United States knows about and watches every Monday Nite worldwide. Just thought I'd share for all of you to know Florala is a lot more well known than many of you know. Many Thanks.

If there were more 'busts' under this new Chief, maybe you could get more backing, but, for lack of performance, it probably won't happen. When your former acting Chief was there, he remodeled as allowed, but, the council kept his money flow down...but, his 'busts' were at the top, always got headlines...alas, the woman-bound council voted him down (was there an underlying reason why...maybe he would not "subject " to their demands?) One never knows, but, those women are not in power any more, so, FatBoy, make more 'bust' and you might get money. If not, maybe you could get into the ring for one nite and raise money for your town...what do you think, supprtVets? Another vet, just call me Outlaw.

Outlaw, in reference to your logistical approach to the situation at hand in the above styled cause I would opinionate as follows; If his (Police Chief) "desire" is genuine, and his cause is "worthy", and it will help others besides himself and the community as a whole, then it would/could be a great idea to schedule him for a SuperMatch at Florala's National Guard Armory, provided he were willing to participate to help the community. You are a very intelligent for bringing the 'idea' to surface to raise money for such a good and worthy cause. Donald Trump and many other 'high profile' individuals have done this in the past, I've seen greater men, do greater things, for 'smaller' causes.

Because my credit card's are maxed out and my bank account is empty, I think I'll borrow a few thousand $$ and have my Face lifted, then hopefully people will feel sorry for me and give me a tube of new lipstick and a job with the goverment for a song and a dance. Its just amazeing how deep in debt we ALL are and some people cant get enough. If I had my wish Andalusia would have a Y M C A instead of a Super Dome and wrestling is barbarous. Some people should have lived in the Roman Empire.

Good luck Florala , I hope you get the new jail. We do have a great bunch of Law Inforcement. But you guy's can come up with something more appitizing than WRESTLING!

winkie, I have to rebutt your comments on the wrestling just a bit. Are you suggesting we swap the wresting for a quilter's guild? I'm sure all of the wrestling folks in the area would just be breaking down the doors to get in to that. I can see the PPV ads now.

You've got to realize, everyone has different tastes for entertainment. Some like more mundane forms of entertainment, others like action. We aren't all the same; it'd be a pretty dull community, if everyone all had the same exact hobbies/interests. I'm not particularly a wrestling fan myself, but I know that others are. You and I may even have a few similar interests. But they're not all the same.

I do find myself repeating a statement that many long before me have stated time and time again: we need more safe activities for the younger folks in our area. But I'd rather see a bunch of kids at a wrestling match than out on the street doing who knows what and into who knows what. It's a different world; the good ole days of "Mayberry" are no more.

The old Armory is a vital community center in Florala. I think they should try to revamp it or replace it, but not just out right take it away. There are plenty of other vacant/delapadated commercial buildings in Florala that could be used for the purpose of the FPD.

Spelling corrections...rebut for rebutt, wrestling for wresting, and dilapidated instead of delapadated. Sorry, guess I need to proof read a little better!

No problem 'proud'. Everyone has an opinion but I'm not into a quilting bee, but if 'Cap and Trade passes you / me might just need a heavy quilt at night. Hope you still have some of your moms / grandmas quilt's. What is Moral or Ethic about wrestling? Pray tell. Now you can proof read my comment,LOL, I'm sure I've made mistakes, if it offends you / other's. I'm sorry.

I'm not a big wrestling fan myself, but I'd like to know exactly what you find immoral or unethical about it.

Speaking of Professional "Wrestling", these entertainers as they are called, draw crowds in the tens of thousands at Main events, and crowds of over four thousand when they appear in Dothan, Alabama and Pensacola, FL civic centers. Thousands of dollars at these entertainment shows are donated to 'Special Olympics' and the like in each area they perform, and these guys are looked up to as 'hero's' for the modern day youth of America, just ask any 10 year boy and he can tell you about Triple H, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and The Undertaker. I know a lot of the 'comment' profilers are not maybe in tune with this segment of America, but it does exist, just like a few years ago The Incredible Hulk and The Dukes of Hazzard dominated the 'Action' fiqures, now its "Wrestlers", check it out at Walmart.

You tell ME what is moral and ethical about a bunch of men / women who are dressed in skin tights ,bleached hair, and talk with vuglarity and sound like they were raised in the gutter? Wrestling is a sick , shall I say sport.

Why not the City Police V County Deputies in a real down home Ball game? Now that would be worth takeing your entire family to. Lets have something that everyone will enjoy with good food. A womanless beauty pageant would be a hoot.I would like to see that. As good looking as some of our officers are there might be some tough compensation. There are lots of ways to make money for Floralas NEW JAIL WITHOUT BLOOD AND SWEAT AND VULGAR TALK. People could donate time, materals and money.

Yes. Where is all this great work Bedsole was going to accomplish? You never read anything about drug busts or any kind of bust. Bedsole is obviously not what the trash and liars (that was pushing him so hard) made him out to be. Instead, he is a "yes" man that will never change anything.
Why is Red still driving? What happened to the "Attempted Murder"? Who is protecting him? Why are they protecting him?
Come on you super brains that know everything. Put it together and tell us!!!!!!!
Maybe it was all BS orchestrated by Bedsole in a feeble attempt to make himself look good. Maybe Bedsole was just doing his usual underhanded, dirty, bullying tactics in order to settle a personal vendetta. I think it was the bullying thing. Bedsole's personal vendettas seem to control him. He obsesses. Let it all go, Fatboy. You got your silly chief job, retirement, and no one who loves you.
Move on and let it all go. Accept yourself and drop those daddy issues. See a counselor. Get your life on the happy side and stop telling lies about people you wish were.
