Bright shouldn’t keep the public in the dark
Published Tuesday, September 8, 2009
I will try to keep this short and to the point. Bobby is not too Bright. Why is he afraid to meet and deal with the public? I was un-fortunate enough to be asked to participate (listen) in one of his “telephone town hall meetings.” It is either a telephone meeting or a town hall meeting — it can’t be both. But, it is a controlled way to avoid direct meetings with the voting public.
The Star-News’ caption on Wednesday’s photo of Mr. Bright was “Having a healthy discussion.” For those few people that he might have met in that “sterile” environment at the hospital, the caption may be true. It may also be true at the other controlled meetings with industry, government officials, military officials, or other contrived meetings to garner face time in the press.
I have no great issues with Mr. Bright’s performance as a sitting, voting congressman. I do have problems with the wide perception that he is afraid to face “the people.”
Early during the congressional break, efforts were made to determine when and how the general public — “the people” — would be allowed to provide him direct and important input as to their wishes. There was never a commitment to participate in true town hall meetings. This is still a “representative democracy” and “the people” that wish to be heard should be afforded the courtesy by Mr. Bright.
The powerful and privileged few that he has met may indeed be a perfect barometer of the feelings of the “people” of his district. He won’t know until election time. I encourage him to talk to them and us. Please don’t shut us out of the process and ignore us.
As a concerned citizen of his district, I implore him to be bold and run the risk of meeting and talking to just plain ole John Q. Public. If he does not, he runs the risk of being a “one termer.” Flip that switch Bobby — brighten up.

Bobby Bright is one of those M'gtry people, much like Obama is one of those Chicago people...they do like they being are told to do...and...you, whom elected them can go to hell...I have no use for him. he can not give an answer to anything...just a pretty boy, like the Lowders at Auburn.

outlaw your comments on this website just show your true ignorance...I am starting to wonder how much education you actually have or if you even voted in the previous election based on the comments you have posted. You should really take an economics or political science class to learn something.

I went to one of Bobby Brights town hall meetings at Heath. Yea, I said Heath, Alabama. He answered questions from the few people that showed up from health care reform, cap and trade and gun control. I liked his answers and if he does what he said than I have no problem with him. He said he was voting no on all three. He left Heath went to Gantt, Red Level, Riverfalls and finally to Lockheart. I do wish he would have done what Jeff Sessions done and had one big one. The people asking questions at these small places might not have gotten a chance at a bigger place. I will say I would not have known about it if I hadn't heard him on waao that morning making his statements and saying where he was going.

For any of you that would like the facts on how Representative Bright votes on issues or his thoughts on the issues go to his web site:
http://www.bright.house.gov/
I have written him on numerous occasions about issues that are of concern to me, namely gun control, health care, runaway government spending, card check and the state of the economy. He has steadfastly voted against his party line on all issues. He is, from what I have read the second most conservative Democrat in the house.
outlaw11, before making unfounded accusations about the man go to his wed site and do a bit of research. Email his office and ask how he feels about an issue--he will respond. Your comments do nothing but irritate and belittle those you don't deem worthy. And NO, I am not a Democrat; I am an Independent--a recent convert from the Republican Party.

I've seen his voting record and heard what he plans to vote for and and against and for the life of me I can't understand why he ran as a democrat. (votesmart.com) I hope he's a one termer too, but I don't think the dems are going to run someone against him.
