Wreck seriously injures Opp teen

Published Tuesday, February 2, 2010

An Opp teen was air lifted after striking a tree during a one-vehicle accident near Opp Sunday.

Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook said Hillary Ashlyn Hall, 18, was seriously injured after losing control of her 2005 Nissan Altima.

“The initial investigation indicates that the vehicle was traveling east on U.S. Hwy. 84, when her vehicle ran off the left side of the road and into the median,” Cook said. “Miss Hall, the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, attempted to bring the vehicle back onto the roadway when she over-corrected the vehicle, traveled back across the eastbound lanes and struck a tree.”

Cook said the crash occurred at 1:40 p.m. about four-tenths of a mile east of Opp.

Hall was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident, and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the accident.

She was airlifted to Flowers Hospital in Dothan, where she is listed in critical condition.

Reports indicate Hall sustained trauma to her head and neck and was placed on life support; however by Monday was conscious and responsive to family.
