While I stood gazing out the kitchen window at the birds and squirrels in the back yard, I heard a yelp. Minnie, the miniature pinscher, had her nose wedged between the slats of the vertical blinds on the sun porch, peering out. She dashed to the door, bouncing and yelping as she scraped one paw and then the other against it. Minnie had a mission. Read story
Whittier quake kept her stateside

We never knew how the 1964 Good Friday earthquake in Anchorage, some 60 miles away, had affected Whittier. Was it wiped out? No, but there was extensive damage from tsunamis that caused waves to reach 43 feet. Today Whittier has connections to Anchorage and the Alaskan interior by highway and rail. It is a port of call for cruise ships and a tourist attraction, offering fishing, hunting, and winter sports. Read story

The Gomillion name is presumed to be a derivation of Gmelin or Gamalon. Various records suggest the family originated in the country of France or Germany and later migrated to Holland or Scotland. After several generations, some members of this family immigrated to the United States. Read story
