Why do you people sympathize with the rich? Or is it that you just don't give a damn about people who can't afford health insurance?

Tell me this kalqulator, why should someone else work and save to give their money to you while you set on your lazy a** . I sympathize with anyone who has been robbed, and this would be robbery. I pay over 600.00 a month for my health care and don't expect you or anyone else to help.
I have no problem with people who are disabled having to be on gov. asst. health care, but if you're able to work then do what you should,Earn your living by the sweat of your brow.

kalqulator, your kidding right? There is a true Democrat comming out here. I am by no means rich. Do you honeslty think it is right to take money from someone who get up every morning, goes to work, tries to make an honest living, just so they can sent it to the goverment so they, the goverment, can sent it to someone that sits on there butt all day! Give me a break...........BTW, I pay for my own health insurance, comes out of my check every week.

I am not rich. As a matter of fact I have no job at this time and I am having it rough. But NO. I do not think the "rich" should have to pay higher taxes to fund health care. Why? because most of the so called rich earned their money like anyone else could if they tried, Why should they be punished for being successful?
The rich are the ones who work hard, create jobs and help the economy. It's the Gov that is messing things up for everyone. Look how many businesses going under because of Mr. Obama and how many more will fall because of his plan.
if your hoping for a big Gov check you better wake up. No such thing as a FREE lunch.

i agree rich should not be treated any differnt than ayone else but the gov. is to blame for job lost and such example know a man who has a felony spent his time tried to get a job in milton at the new prison as a laborer on constructon, but could not get hired because of that on his record.BUT the company is alowed by the gov. to hire all the "illegal imagrants " they can to get the job complete in time. we know they know nothing about their record.SAD

What about people who don't "Sit on their butt" all day.

I grew up with a mother who worked a full time job, a part time job, and went to school full time in order to get a better job. My brother and I were too young to work. What about families like ours?

You can't count everyone off as lazy and greedy. Some people do all they can, and still need a little help.

Jama, I agree with you that not everyone sits on their butt all day and, not everyone is lazy and greedy. People do need assistance from time to time. I have no problem with that at all! But, it is not the rich people's responsibility to foot the bill. Everyone should pay their fair share. Just because the rich worked hard and saved up, or inherited or however they came to have THEIR money, doesn't give me or anyone else the right to take it away from them.

Jama, I have no problem with you getting a little help. But don't sit and wait for good fortune to come to you. I work 9 to 12 hours 6 days a week . I pay a hell of a lot tax. I own my own business and could work a lot less and still make a good living. I choose however to work more so that when I choose to retire I can have a little more than social sec. to live on at that time. I will not allow a gov. body to say to me that I have to give my hard earned money to lazy a** people.I'm pretty close to retirement age now,I'll close my business and do just enought to keep my assetts before I'm penalzed for hard work.

Well said Festus!

Typical hypocritical republican attitude "I got mine, you get yours" until YOU need something. Wow, the wonderful CHRISTIAN attitudes amaze me. I bet you are the same people who sit on the FRONT PEW at the FBC every Sunday morning and I would wager that every single one of you voted for John McCain and before that George W Bush, TWICE!

Posted by Festus (anonymous) on July 16, 2009 at 4:19 p.m. (Suggest removal)

No bookworm,I don't go to FBC, and you don't know much about Baptist or you would know the the front row of a Baptist church is almost always empty. And yes, I voted for George W. Bush both times, and for John McCain,I voted for Bush the last time and McCain this time because they were the less of the two evils. And one more thing,Noone gave me mine so why should it be given to you. Get out of the chair, lay the book down until tonight, and while you rest read. If you like I can offer some great books.

Not that I think you will Bookworm, but please get Mark Levin's "Liberty and Tyranny".Who knows you might even move a little from the left.

Festus, i'll bet bookworm can't even read, they are waiting on the Goverment to do it for them.

What is wrong with people's attitudes now is the fact that the gov't has given so many "handouts" to lazy and unproductive bums that they just now "expect" everything to be handed to them. Many that don't have insurance just sponge off the healthcare system and get medical care for free. There is only a tiny fraction of people who actually deserve gov't assistance. The majority is a generational continuance of laziness. Look at those who say they "can't afford healthcare". They seem to "afford" cigatettes, beer, clubbing, partying and buying junk food at the local convenience store every day!

Did I touch a nerve?
Checked out the Mark Levin book on Amazon and this was my favorite review,
Face it, if you agree with this fundamentalist conservative garbage, then you don't need this book (reading probably isn't your strong suit anyways). You're not going to learn anything new, or be challenged by new viewpoints, or become any less self centered. If you buy this book all you will get is your own opinions (that probably aren't really your own original thoughts to begin with) regurgitated back at you with a bit more self importance, and even less perspective. This is just relativism, and knee jerk reactionary bloviating from someone who is too stupid to see that his ideology always loses in the face of progress, too proud to admit that his beliefs have failed this country disastrously, and too scared to live in a world that doesn't march in lock step behind is over opinionated, and undereducated self.

If you don't agree with the Fox News world view, this won't change your mind, and if you do, then you've already heard all this before, don't waste your time on mental masturbation, read a book that will challenge you. Thanks anyway for your suggestion, you provided confirmation that all of my earlier statements are accurate.

I'm just a poor hard working man who works over 70 hours a week to put food on the table, a roof over my head and clothes on my back. I think when a man can do that, there isn't much more you can ask for. It gripes my butt to pay $96 a week for health care insurance. At the same time, I'm thankful to have a job and the ability to work. I'm just a poor man, born a poor man, will die a poor man. My Daddy told me when I was just a small child that there are two ways for MOST folks to become rich. They can inherit it, or steal it. Plain and simple, I never forgot that. As I became older, I see alot of truth in that, old money and new money. There are a few people that are fortunate enough to work hard, invent something and become rich. It is the rich people that employ the poor people. Fact of life. For some strange reason most think let's just tax the rich man, he can afford it. Then they rant and rave when they move to another country , take the money and business that they own with them. And there goes our jobs with them to. Remember this country was founded because of high taxes. Remember the Boston Tea party? You can tax a man to death. And yes, they have a death tax to, nothing in this world is free. When you tax the rich man, you penalize a man for being successful. IF that's the case, then why even bother? The bible teaches to tithe 10%, the 10% applies to the poor man and rich man just the same. The Govt should do that same. Or reach a figure that is acceptable to everyone. The problem today is that everyone wants something for nothing. That's the problem. I don't have a problem with helping a man or woman when they need a hand. If they need public assistance. That is fine to. But instead of sitting on their rear ends and becoming lazier and lazier (as not all but most do) , make these people do community service, put in a few hours of work for the benefits and assistance they recieve. If you want a job, it's the same as eating, you have to open your mouth. You can't feed a closed mouth, you can't get a job with a closed mouth either. I for one would love to be rich, unless I were to buy a lotto ticket from another state and become very very lucky, that's not going to happen. I'm not fortunate enough to have rich relatives, not smart enough to invent something to make me rich. But smart enough to leave the rich man alone that pays my salary. Never been one to bite the hand that feeds me. Why should the rich man pay 4 times as much in taxes as the poor man? I don't see it, once again, punishing a man for being successful. I think we all need to back up, take a long look at things and put our noses back on the grindstone and come up with a better plan. Where there is a will, there's a way. God Bless America, and thank you God for my Job, my good health, the ability to work, and for not being lazy and scared to get a job and do it.

I work hard too, I don't want to give my money away anymore than the next person but the difference I see here is what really gets me upset more than the people who might be getting something undeserved is corporate welfare, that upsets me! I understand that the "trashy" people who live down the road from me and "draw a check" that's just a drop in the bucket compared to the real drain on our society. Andybulldog if you are paying $96 bucks a week for healthcare you really should count yourself lucky...........my parents currently are paying far more and that is after my dad retired from his company with 30 years of service, he pays a percentage that has increased dramatically over the past 10 years. I think it is currently $685 a month and rising. THAT gripes me.................and that is not the fault of the "trashy" people down the road who "draw" a check, we are people who have worked all of our lives too. Our retirement savings is down the tubes, whose fault is that?????? We have no security even though we have done everything right, whose fault is that????? I think we are on the same side here but have differing opinions on how we got to be here. I don't want to bite the hand that feeds me either but something is terribly wrong in this world when we pay far more taxes than people far more wealthy than we are.

I understand what you are saying. I have always believed in the "GOLDEN RULE", but after working for a living I do believe it truly has two meanings.

1. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

2. Those with the Gold, make the rules.

Could someone please define "rich"? If I recall correctly, during the election, Obama/Biden kept sliding the income scale downward to included more and more people. Higher taxes are a given. Obama said he would raise taxes and he will. He also intends to force universal health care on all citizens (except Congress, of course). This really is all about socialism. Everyone gets the same no matter how hard they work or don't work. Government health care in Massachusetts (Romney care) is a total mess. It isn't about temporary help or a hand up. It is about the government taking control of more and more of the private sector. The health care industry is 1/6 or 1/7 (depending on the source) of our GNP. The private health care industry will eventually disappear. There will be a greater disparity between the "haves" and the "have nots" than there is now.

Are you my Dad???? :-) Seriously, I agree with you on that one 100%! But you know it doesn't have to be that way.........there are more of us than there are of them. We should all come together on the things that we CAN agree on, another one of my Dad's favorite sayings is "it is all smoke and mirrors" and what he means is that people in power like to use small issues to divide us so that we focus on those issues rather than the things that are really important. Like what I said about corporate welfare vs our neighbours who might be getting something they don't deserve. You have to look at the big picture, the metaphor i'm thinking of is something like "missing the forest for the trees". Ha, Ha, anyway I bet that you know what I mean.

It would help if Dr.s office calls and fees as well as hospital cost werent out the roof. Its a disgrace when you go to the Dr. and if you dont have insurance he/she turnes you over to a Practioner. I guess they cant make house payments on poor people cases.

Did you know that you get a higher price at hospitals for your final bill if you do not have insurance? This is because insurance providers contract for a discount, how fair is that?
