Did anyone notice the difference in class sizes in the special edition on Kindergarten classes in the paper Saturday? Some schools could easily combine classes and form one class that would still be smaller than many others.

Going to take my big hearted, inferior, small minded self to church.

I sure am glad Jesus doesn't limit His saving grace to a FIXED number of people who meet only certain physical criteria!

His grace is even sufficient for you. Have a blessed day.

ummmm.....elitist means the rule or domination by a small but powerful SOCIAL GROUP made up of superior (or those who think their status makes them superior) members. Your last name wouldn't be Hitler, would it?

Maybe you should join me in sixth grade so that you can learn about the Golden Rule and basic economics...
"now you can budget money without worrying
about short falls because you know how much
money will be collected from fees to play"...........
more kids, more money from fees= less chance of budget short falls!

Bottom line is that Little League SHOULD be all about the kids learning the game and having fun, NOT some parents trying to live vicariously through their children!

floknos....sounds like you need to get a sponsor so you can keep (or get) yourself a travel team......that way you can pick kids for your team from where ever you can recruit them from, and of course allow only the best to play. Eliteist mentality!

Why draft 20 and cut 5? Just add more teams.....OH, I forgot, you might have to allow any child to play then....that would be terrible!

Just a few questions/observations..........
- Why do we wait to begin construction/discussion of construction on ball fields until the construction will run into baseball season? Wouldn't it have made a lot more sense to have began the construction immediately following the last season at Johnson Park so that it would be complete prior to the next season?
-It seems that this solution presented by the city rec. dept. has arisen SINCE the city has been losing many of its players to travel ball, leaving more average players to field the city teams.
-If I remember correctly, in 9-10 year olds last year there were 2 Pleasant Home teams, 3 Straughn teams, 1 Red Level team, and 3 or MAYBE 4 Andalusia teams......I'm sure it was much the same in the other age groups........more county teams/players than city teams/players.
-I think if we were to vote, that most city people would like to combine and most county people would like to remain separate for the reasons of both convenience (our kids practiced right after school) as well as playing with their buddies. If a county school person would like to play with the city or vise-versa (with the understanding that they would not be eligible for All Stars), let them. I bet most people wouldn't care one way or the other.
-As for the person that said "so what if a kid doesn't make the team", I pray that God never blesses you with a child or grandchild that is special needs or not athletically gifted. Just to be part of the team, no matter if they ever get to set foot on the field during a game, means so much to so many kids throughout their school years. Not to mention, sports are great motivators for many kids. Take that motivation away just because they don't possess "All-Star" ability and you will have a lot more society problems than you can shake a stick at.

I don't think this article was written by a local reporter. I didn't see any star-news staff. It was most likely a butler county news reporter or greenville advocate reporter covering MHS (probably homecoming), thus the bias.
Pleasant Home did make a valiant effort (Josh Godwin's efforts also stood out). However, MHS just seems to be loaded athletically this year. There wasn't just two or three major contributors to their team as many times is the case.

supportVets, you know what they say about assumptions!

(swswilliam, you are correct about the school being only 7th and 8th grades.)

CC website is www.cov.k12.al.us.

Check it out for yourself and do the math....4 full-time teachers + 4 part-time teachers for ~74 students (2 grades ~37 per grade)........if you only counted the full-time teachers that's ~17....add the part-time teachers and that reduces the number of students per class further. (Not to mention the expenditures for other staff - part-time counselor, nurse, band, coach, and full-time secretary, principal, custodian, and 2 lunchroom workers - and expenses for operating costs and maintenance).
It's just basic economics. Not to mention that it would benefit FHS and thus the entire Florala area. It is not like they are planning to bus all Florala students to another community! Geez!

The middle school that is being discussed with ~74 students is grades 6, 7, and 8...correct? That would mean each grade level would have ~25 students.
supportVets, I have also been witness to 25 students per graduating class. However, the schools were K-12 schools housed on ONE campus with one principal.....class 1A schools. I've never seen nor heard of another 1A school that required 3 principals and operating staffs + all of the operating and maintenance expenses that go with each campus other than Florala.

Agree with Country. No one else around here can boast of 200+ point in 4 games, even with the mercy rule of 8 min. second half quarters. Pretty good for a team of about 20 and without the starting QB.

WA: I understand. My earlier post thanking Seth (Hammett) - speaker of the house of rep. in Alabama- for grant money was in reference to him being an alumni of Straughn. He has been a big proponent for our entire area, not just Straughn. I doubt there is a school in this county that he has not helped with grant money for improvements.
