Very simple explanation rabbitt2300, I like it.
Let us all keep in mind that children watch our every move and often want to be just like a parent, grandparent, teacher, coach, etc. I am not here to judge this man as that is not my place in more ways than one. I will, however, lend a bit of parenting advice to the family. If a child sees such a person as described above continue to conduct themselves as has been proven over and over in this case and be yet "stood-up for" by other adults, what does that child learn?
Now I know, at this point, someone is going to come on here and say, " He knows what his Dad did was wrong but he still loves him."......... As he should. Next, someone will say, "He does somethings wrong but that does not make him a bad father. He talks to him everday and makes sure he gets everything he needs." Bravo Red. So you are providing the fundamental need as a father - just as father's have done for centuries. That does not make you special.
I don't know where "some" (not all) of you got your idea of a good parent from but just because you speak to your kid on the phone and kick the babies momma some money does not make you a father. It makes you a sperm donor. If you want to be a dad - act like one which does not include running from the law and having a bad reputation in the community. Set an example because dads, they are watching.
As for the family members here getting mad, support the child and Red. They both need you now. But don't try to make him father of the year because you have all clearly stated he is not.

What if this guy had just robbed, raped, or murdered someone's family? What would the public say then if he had not been pursued? "Whew, cops not doing their jobs again. Why did they not chase and catch him?"
Pursuits are neccessary in the police buisness. Cops very seldom know who they are chasing or why the person is running until the pursuit is ended. They could have just robbed, raped, or murdered a member of your family and that is why they are running.
Just keep that in mind when you say cops shouldn't chase anyone who flees.

I am back because someone does not have their facts straight.....again!
Sonny Bedsole has no "storied past" when it comes to race. I have known Sonny for about 15 years and worked with him myself for about 10 of those.
Sonny doesn't care what color your skin is. If you break the law, he will lock you up. As a matter of fact Sonny hired one of the first full-time black CCSO Deputies (Phillip Staley) when Sonny was the Chief Deputy under former Sheriff Wilbur Mitchell.
Sonny also worked under a black supervisor at the ABC Board (Lt. Lance Price). Sonny maintains that friendship even after his retirement.
Let's get our facts straight.
Good luck Sonny. We are all still behind you.

Very well said "scoop". I hope you continue to voice your opinion in Florala. That is your right. When you elect those council members and mayor, one is not to just sit back and let them do what they want for 4 years. Hold them accountable for their actions and votes. Go to meetings and be heard there.
I do not live in Florala but I have ties to the area. I wish Florala the best and hope this council and mayor can get things going in the right direction - starting with Sonny Bedsole.

There may not be a cleaner record in our county. I am a friend and former co-worker of Judge Bowden's and have great respect for him. It sounds like justice seeker may have been prosecuted by Ben during his work at the DA's Office.
Don't sling mud at a good man.
I would also like to extend my thanks to Lee Enzor. He too has done a fantastic job and deserves the thanks of every Covington County citizen. I look forward to Lee seeking further employment in public service as I would gladly support him.

There will not be another candidate that applies for the position that meets the above listed qualifications other than Sonny Bedsole. I am not even sure there is one at that will meet the qualifications other than Sonny.
Do the right thing Florala, hurry up and get Sonny in there so he can get the Florala Police Department as up to date as the other law enforcement agencies in our county.
He is the obvious choice.

If you live in the city limits of Florala and want a professional, well respected, trained police chief, go to your next city council meeting and voice your choice. Sonny Bedsole has over twenty years experience in law enforcement to include a stint as the Chief Deputy of the Covington County Sheriff's Department.
Sonny has a great working relationship with all the other law enforcement agencies in Covington and surrounding counties to include DTF.
Sonny also has many ties to upper level officials in several state agencies. This could help bring needed funding to Florala to improve both the police department and the city as a whole.
Wake up Florala - be heard. Why in the world would you not all be at the next council meeting chanting for the new council to hire him? You will not find a more qualified man for the job that knows the citizens and the area of Florala.
Or, you can all sit back and argue over what is not being done.

Here we go.... someone already here to start putting someone down about a job they have not even started yet.
Why did you not run for the position if you were so concerned about Mr. Sasser? Give the man his chance to see what he can do to get us in the right direction. He can't be any worse than what we had.

I say we should all give the Sheriff a chance to figure out what he is going to do. I agree with many that some action must be taken in addressing the problems at the jail with both staff and maintenance. If Dennis had rolled in last Thursday without any warning and just went to firing people left and right he could have fired an innocent party. Just as with a criminal case, an investigation must be conducted. If someone is going to loose their job due to negligence (as was stated) that case must be proven if you are a boss worth his salt. Just blaming someone and firing them is not the solution. Investigating the problem and getting to the bottom of it is the proper solution.
When Dennis took this job he took on a headache. I told him that myself. He agreed but said it was what he wanted to do. I have disagreed with some of his decisions but always knew they were his to make because we, the citizens, elected him.
The prior escapes were not under this administration. Those escapes were due to there not being proper changes made at the jail (until it was too late Thank you former Sheriff Wilbur Mitchell for straightening out that jail while you had it as Chief Jailer at the end of Sheriff Clark's administration). This is the first that Dennis has had during his term. We now as citizens and voters should sit back and watch to see what changes occur ( not overnight) at the CJ to ensure this type of incident never happens again.
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Let's let Sheriff Dennis Meeks reevaluate his current situation and then we can judge. Until then, we know nothing
On Meeks: Jail staff ‘negligent’
