Just sue the Feds to clean it up and keep it clean. Didn't they bring this stuff here and plant it to "help us out?" Shouldn't they keep it in control?

Why not combine the kudzu problem with the art interest? Kudzu can be used to make many interesting baskets and things of that type. It can also be eaten. Other communities across the South have kudzu festivals. Google "Kudzu Festival," send some folks up to learn how to utilize the vine in art and cooking, and come back to teach all those, young and old, who wish to participate. The Depot can be a kudzu art museum.

The article didn't even mention the South's nuclear power industry that emits no carbon dioxide. It seems like a skewed article intended to generate fear and support for a political position.

Are any of you old enough to remember the voices saying we couldn't afford clean air and water?

As citizens we deserve to be exposed to ALL of the important FACTS before being encouraged to throw our support in one direction or another. I would encourage you to obtain all the facts before you act on this article.

The drug court will help some of these individuals - after they become convicted criminals. It would be nice to have an "amnesty" program where individuals in trouble with drugs could get a drug court treatment without ever being busted.

Who employs anyone with a meth conviction on their record? If one can get through a program without a drug conviction, it would help them become productive citizens.

Drug court may be beneficial to a criminal defendant. As others have pointed out, it can be a game for politicians to play.

Cops have traditionally "overcharged" drug offenses with the support of many DAs. They are charged with intent to distribute or sale, a felony, knowing the evidence will only support a "simple possession" case. The Defendant sees the opportunity to get out with a misdemeanor and takes the deal; his lawyer appears to have done something and the DA gets a conviction - a tidy package. An overcharge will now prevent the Defendant from a great chance to clean up his life. This has to be looked into.

The drug court typically requires the Defendant to fill out an application. It asks the Defendant to tell them what he did and describe the extent of his drug problem! Questions like this are also typically asked by the "Board." Well, only the Defense attorneys on the Board should get this information. If he is turned down, how do you keep the DA and the Judge from considering this information in the investigation, trial and sentencing?

There should be as much objectivity in the process as possible. Any judge or DA who has "drug court information" gained through this process should not be allowed to be involved in that Defendant's prosecution should the Defendant not be selected for the program.

Right before an election is as good a time as any to save lives.

How is it any more dangerous to a child's health to sell a prescription drug in her presence as opposed to taking the same medication in her presence?

I assume this law was targeted to having kids around meth labs and such, but this application of the law seems to overreach the intent of the statute.

The ball field land sounds like something Covington County should hold onto. Buying it back later will cost much more. It sounds to me like we are selling the future to pay for the present.

Is there no deadwood in government positions that could be temporarily laid off?

Have we tightened our belts as much as possible? Need an ice pick to make a new hole?

I'm not familiar with the properties at issue, but it seems to me that the loss of the ball field property would negatively impact our county's future.

As a part of his punishment I suggest the offender be required to meet with a member of each family he harmed, find out something about the person buried under each marker vandalized, and have them tell him how his crime has affected their lives.

He's probably a good kid doing stupid things. If he understands why it is so important not to do these things, it's likely he will not be a repeat offender.

Whoever did this is a loser and a disgrace to our town. If you know who did this (and several of you do) call the cops and turn this jerk in. It would do us all good to drive by and see him cleaning up his mess.
