I wish he would have a personal conviction on all the other things he is doing wrong. He lied to get in like all Officials, now plays the "conviction"card. Why not feel the convictions for lieing to the county and helping dig our own grave. And as far as the Arena, if they didn't charge so much to lease it we would see more events.

Personally, I don't gamble, I don't buy raffles, and I don't go to the VFW and play the machines. People are gambling illegally in our county as we speak, I know a lot of Poker Tournaments at all the bars around here. Sounds to me like some people around here don't want gambling but i don't hear anyone trying to stop the poker tournaments. I have known people who put 5 dollars in to play and do it for the fellowship not the money. I also know people who put 100 dollars in and walk away without gas money for next week. Like it or not there IS gambling in this county. Why not let the schools and roads around here benefit from it. I think it would be different if we were located in the middle of the state, but you can drive 20 minutes from Andalusia and get lottery tickets, and a lot of people do it. Why then, deny the revenue that Alabama have new schools and nice roads. I believe in being proud of where you are from, but why be proud of all these crappy roads and run down schools that could fall down in the next thunderstorm, let alone the hurricanes we get. This county and this state is in trouble, We are among the lowest in Education, Lowest in wages, Some of the worst roads i have seen, and so many run down buildings. If you want to be proud of your state and county, why hold it back and not let it grow. I admit I am not a southerner, I am a yankee, but I enjoy this state, and area, i mean I have moved away and always come back, there are good people here. But with the revenue you could provide something for your children to do besides drugs. I am from Sturgis SD, and when i was growing up it was the size of Andalusia. We had a Pamida (think walmart and Target mixed) Fast food and all just like Andalusia, but we had a Recreation center with 5 fullcourt indoor basketball courts, weightroom, theater, arcade, Olympic Size swimming pool, and an indoor track. We had a lot of neat little clubs and parks for the youth to join. It was great. What is sad Is I love this area, but I don't have kids as over yet solely because I don't know if I want them to grow up where there is only drinking, drugs , and sex for the youth around here. It's noble to not want gambling, but it is not smart to let your area die for a noble opinion. Think we are not dieing, read the article on the bridges we still have not fixed because we are waiting on federal money. With the lottery and legal gambling we probably wouldn't be left waiting for money.

Yeah, and the sad thing is most of these people going to rehab are repeat offenders that have already passed rehab because they were ORDERED to go, or were kicked out for the 1st, 2nd, and sometimes the 3rd rehab. Give someone one chance, if they blow it, send em to prison

where in the statement does it say i think it is ok to have a hole in the fence? I simply stated the commission has to approve it to be worked on. And the law books are the same ones everyone can read. If you don't believe to statement ask Mr.Sasser who owns the jail building. They do, Who is responsible for the Operation, the Sheriff. And again, the Commission has to pay the bills, they give the Sheriff money in a budget form, and even though he has money in the budget for the jail, the commission is having to approve any and all spending. And the air vent you think is a lie, is true, you must think the mean air ducts and what not, the vents the talk about a air vents in the cell block with metal levers over them and they got kicked out, and I saw where the levers where missing. Now to say that a previous administration did open the locked area to them is another story altogether

Pull you law book out and you will see that OPERATING the jail is the Sheriff's job, the MAINTAINING THE BUILDING is the Commissions job and all and any repairs or alterations to the facility and it's grounds must be approved through the commission, or their secretary as our county goes. The Sheriff can ask for changes all he wants but the people who fix stuff have to be paid and the sheriff can't do that, the commission has to pay the people to fix things, so no, the Sheriff could not fix it without the commission going for it, and like they have forever around here, they will not fix or change anything until something bad happens, and then it is to just save face and act like they did not not know about it. Like it or not, the people who have sunk this county are the ones who control most of the operations of it, whether legally or financially. And in case you are thinking the Sheriff should call higher authorities if they will not do what they need, they have been here before and it has done no good, there is corruption there as well and it's hard to keep a secret in this county and The "Queen Bee"and she is called can make it look as if they are doing the job right by the time the help we asked for gets here. So until you remove this Queen, nothing will get better around here. Just like appointing a man who can't even run the Arena to take care of EMA. Give it to your buddy not the person who could do the job well. If you ask where i get my info, trust me it's accurate, but i must protect myself because I got bills to pay and there is are not of jobs around here.

The Federal inmate escaped from the exercise yard, not C-block Ventilation. They had the inmates 6 months and did not get the raise promised them in October. So that is an irrelevant statement in the pay department, the reason they are underpaid is the county is broke do to commissioners that are self centered. And the hole in the fence was reported and noticed, but you can't get Kevin Kennedy to fix anything at the jail, ask any Grand Jury Member who has seen the inside of the jail and seen the same repairs were suggested by the Grand Jury members for the last 5 years.

I gotta question, If Kristi has to choose between $41,000 and $37,600, was she making both? If so that is $78,600. Deputies, whom are out there everyday protecting us have a rough base salary of $23,500 a year, correction officers $18,700. They both have 12 hour shifts, 84 hour SCHEDULED pay period hours. I say scheduled because they have to work alot more, but instead of overtime they get comp time. but if you do the math they are scheduled for 2016 hours a year, actually working closer to 2400 hours without receiving more money for it. The staff at the commission building work 8-4 with a hour lunch. that is 5 days a week and a 70 hour pay period. That mean they work 1680 hours a year. You notice how they cannot seem to get anything right and we all find them to be unintelligent in their logic? Seems like nothing is getting accomplished and we pay them good money and they are not "working"many hours. If you are making this kind of money you should be getting more accomplished than were to take money from the areas affecting those that are underpaid and under funded already. Andalusia has around 5 officer on duty at a time, we have 2 deputies for the WHOLE county. I am not going to say what I do but I live comfortably at $24,000 a year. HAve a nice home, 2 newer vehicles, and can enjoy myself from time to time. Imagine what I could do with almost double the income in half the hours worked. If some of these people would get paid what they are WORTH then maybe we could get outta the shape we are in. I know some people who would do the same job at alot less money and do alot better. But they may not be friends or family of who is in the commission office.
