Surely, no THINKING person believes that we're still a nation or government "of the people"! Abraham Lincoln changed all that a century and a half ago. Besides, it makes no difference what o says (nor any other former president,) it's what they do that matters. Our real governance comes from the controlling press, home-based in New York. We the people have one chance and that is to adopt the model of the Tea-Party Movement...then be sure THEY (the controlling powers) don't take control of it too!
On Did you watch President Obama's State of the Union address?

DA22, thanks for having the guts to "step-out" in this forum and your explanation seems very plausible to me. However, keep in kind that you'll not satisfy those with a personal complaint against you and they will "hammer" you with baseless, unanswerable questions. From my experience, you have done the best job as DA in a very long time.
An informed Citizen.

Is the above writer suggesting that there are other churches in the county supporting gambling??? Let's hear from them if this be true. Another question: if this writer finds our county so "square" then maybe he should try New Orleans or San Francisco, etc. From what I hear, there are many locales which are not "square". I'll just be content here in Covington County. Hooray for Dr. Karthous!

I personally knew a couple who opened a pawnshop near Victoryland and made a killing on Other's hardship. They ALMOST made enough to support their own addiction to gambling! So, the DOGTRACK (gambling) got ALL the monies in the end...while the MISERY was spread around. How stupid is it to believe that "buying a ticket" or "pulling a slot machine lever" will produce any monetary gain...except for the Underworld owners of the slot machines.+

Hoorah for D.A. Gambril and AGAIN Florala returns to the days of the "Voodoo Mayor" and is destined to become the "laughing stock" of Alabama once again. I think Sheriff Meeks will step-up when laws are broken and haul those slot machines to storage houses in the county seat. But then, Florala's "legal advisor" will get rich defending a "defenceless" position. Time and monies would be better spent developing Lake Jackson into a tourist attraction ...but then that doesn't appeal to the "sub-culture" ...does it???

What part of NO does Florala not understand?? Electronic "Bingo" (which has nothing to do with real Bingo) is illegal in the state of Alabama and had any citizen of Florala been at the Commission meeting where Judge Jerry Stokes showed that Body the pitfalls and the ILLEGALITY of electronic bingo, then they would not be wasting their time and monies (to their lawyer) in pursuit of this silly, frivilous, and sinfulll undertaking! Again Florala re-turns to the days of their "Voodoo Mayor" and the embarassment of ignorance! My opinion.

winkie; Obviously, you don't understand "tongue-in-cheek". I was simply stating what I heard others saying during the election where they chose Phillips over a very good Probate Judge, Frank McGill. Remember, they also chose "Shady Grady" (DA) over McGill for the same reason..He was from Opp! In case you still don't understand, there is (was) nothing wrong with Opp and there was very little wrong with Frank McGill. I knew him very well.
For those calling for ALL office holders to be removed in the next election, I ask, will any of you do the personal research to determine that your "new" candidates are any better??? I think not and then you'll be just as disenchanted. One has only to look at the present Commission to prove the point.

Judge Enzor was NOT convicted of any crime but chose to resign. Frank McGill was appointed by Gov. Wallace and served honorably. But then, a majority of YOU voted for Phillips and McGill was defeated. His only "crime"...he was from OPP! You'll contnue to make the same mistakes, again and again!

Corruption is Corruption. Period. A classic example is hidden in the fact that 3 of our current Commissioners said they would immediately replace the "Queen" but upon taking office...they all immediatley changed their minds! Why??? Was it some "revelation" from the Heavens OR was it what she could do for them, personally? Why is NOT some of this public indignation shown for them, who STILL hold office and share the "fruits" of our taxes. Phillips is disgraced and can never hold office again (convicted felon) but the "Queen" reigns forever!

Covington County, please wake up! Gambling is not the answer to anything except an addiction. And how many times does it need explaining that "electronic" bingo not even remotely resembles the game of (legal) bingo. It worries me that our people cannot understand that.
I too, had wondered why McGregor had been allowed to operate illegally. Tonight, Governor Riley's spokesman (Emerson) said that they had listened to Troy King's Opinion but had found that his Opinion was wrong....therefore the action now. The Alabama Supreme Count will guickly settle this issue.
