There are two different issues addressed in the article. Reading is one. The other is the drop out rate. The comment by stephencaton could be an indicator why reading comprehension is a focus.

That's right. We shouldn't judge anyone. Everyone should do what ever they please and whatever the consequences are.... well somebody else can suffer. Unless she was raped, she either chose to get pregnant or chose to do nothing to prevent it. If her birth control method of choice failed maybe she should have chosen abstinence. Works every time. So, she choses to have a child without a husband and now wants the Army to let her stay home while women who are married and have children are deployed. Nope, she is out. She has shown she has little respect for herself and doesn't really give a hoot (except to exploit the baby to get out of deployment) about the welfare of the child.

Apparently some of you didn't get the radical feminist memo. A father is needed only as a sperm donor. The important thing is that children are loved. The father isn't necessary for the physical, mental, emotional or financial health of the child(ren). After all, having children out of wedlock (what an old fashioned term) is so liberating.
She should be out of the military. Period.

Estragon: I have never heard Tea Party participants/conservatives refer to themselves as tea baggers. The liberals you mention called conservatives by that term then later tried to pull the innocent act. Personally, I'm not bothered when people are not familiar with the vulgar slang you seem to know so much about.
To learn what originated in the DC/Baltimore area, you'd need to ask someone who lives/visits that area, not me.

Estragon: I'd like to add "tea bagging" to the Mental Health Center and vibrators. You love to talk about tea baggers and tea bagging. Just why DO you know so much about these things?

Here we go again; Class warfare. Liberals love it. Always someone else's fault.

Wigger2012: I'm sure your English teachers at AHS will cringe if they read your post. Please use a punctuation mark now and then. Doing so will add credibility to your comments.

Careful reading shows that AYP in reading was not achieved but instead awarded based on a confidence indicator.
For such a tough high school curriculum, I am surprised that they are just now using Cornell Notes and graphic organizers school wide. My junior high students start taking Cornell notes in 7th grade and learn graphic organizers in elementary school.
The school website does not list courses but I can't imagine there aren't remedial or LAP classes.
I am sure AHS is a good school. Congratulations, stephencaton on your 4.2 GPA. Are the courses weighted? Just curious.
On AHS looks to boost reading, grad rate
