After the first time Doster escaped from this same jail, a different person (sorry I can't remember ihs name) was put in charge of the jail. He immediately started doing regular shakedowns of the jail.
He found all kinds of things. The jailers complained to the sheriff and being the idiot he was, the head jailer was soon replaced. More escapes followed.

I never said that I was opposed to rebuilding Riverfalls St. I am in fact in favor of it. I was responding to previous comment about our tax dollars being spent on it in terms of paying for a massive bond issue over several years. I also commented on Earl's unwarranted criticism of past administrations approach to spending. Some of the problems incurred during Jerry Andrews term was discovering some things Earl did during his first term that nobody knew about

The city does have a grant of $1.4M to pay for redoing the paved area of Riverfalls St. but the rest of project - sidewalks, street lighting, water, sewer. and waste water systems - will be paid for with our tax $s. We and our children will be paying off the bond debt that Earl is pushing. However, there are a number of revenue sources that can go pot in a depressed economy that could severely effect the city's ability to make bond payments. This is exactly what has happened to Jefferson Co. that has it in such a mess. Earl's criticism of past councils' pa-as-you-go way of business is unwarranted. Their good judgment is the reason that when Earl took office the city was was in such good financial shape.

Bubba has demonstrated for us the obvious fact that he is one ignorant racist guy.

Shamrock is a real sham who repeats the same old tired rightwing talking points. This kind of political poppycock is not based on fact but on drivel passed around the internet and spouted on Fox News. I made an earlier challenge to name the liberal/progressive teachers in our schools that has gone unanswered.

All this yampering about the NEA is another good example of what I am talking about. Shamrock likes accuse but never will offer anything to prove the allegation. Where has the curricculm in our local schools been changed as a result of anything produced by the NEA?

The Bible is not a scientific textbook and I don't remember anything in Darwin's Origin of the Species that had anything to do with the Christian faith. Trying to mix them together is a silly exercise. I do not want religion taught in public schools by teachers that are not trained to do so and I want science teachers left alone to teach what they are qualified to teach.

i. Obama was responding to a question during a news conference. As it turns out, his statement that the Cambridge police acted stupidly was correct.
2. Crowley apparently lied that the woman who called 911 said that there were two black men in the house. The tapes reveal that she didn't say that they were black. Once he knew that Gates was in his own home, the matter should have ended. What is obvious from his report is that he purposely lured Gates out onto the porch where he knew that he could arrest him for being disorderly in public. We all have a constitutional right to be secure in our own homes, something Crowley doesn't seem to understand, but which a rormer constitutional law professor like Obama does.
3 This kind of thing happens all the time in Andalusia. When policemen lose their cool when things do not go to their liking, they arrest the person closest to them for "interfering in a governmental operation", "harassment" or any of a number of other crimes that they know a person will not be able to defend in city court.
4. Cops in Cambridge are nor much different from Andalusia.

I challenge WAtidefan to name the liberal teachers who are teaching liberal nonsense in our community. If Shamrock knows of"liberal, progressive teachers in our local schools - then name - or quit casting such slurs against our school systems.

PS. War Eagle!!!!

Maybe Shamrock can explain what his/her
comments have to do with raising the minimum wage.

On Some question wage increase

One thing is for is for sure is that that minimum wage workers would be a lot worse off in a down economy without a raise. Every bit of their raise will be spent in somewhere here in town. This represents new money in the local economy that will turn several times. Even to buy more combos at the Sonic or McDonalds. That is basic Economics 101. The same thing goes for the super Walmart here in town. Even though the money spent there goes to Arkansas, the new customers that are coming from a wider area outside of Andalusia are also spending money at others businesses while they are in town. Also Walmart employees who are now getting the 70 cent raise are spending it locally.

There is no evidence to support the previous comment. It sounds more like republican talking points. I have yet to meet someone who was laid off due to an increase in minimum wage. Nor do I recall any significant increases in prices in local stores after the last two wage increases. Broad staements unsupported by facts is the kind of crap out out by Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Rielly .
