Consolidation of administrations of Covington County area schools has been explored. Sadly it would result in $0 saved for the consolidated schools. The State largely funds the administrative staff, i.e. principals, superintendent, etc. So if we had fewer here, we would receive less money from the state and it would end up going to other systems. If we could continue to receive the same amount of funding then we would be on to something but unfortunately that's not the case. If there is a bright side, at least the money sent to us to pay the administrators is spent in the area by those that received it.

B'gravy - I'll take a shot - PowerSouth is owned by area Electric Co-ops, Covington Electric, Pioneer, Southern Pine, and 13 other co-ops and 4 municipalities including Andalusia
They are called members and they are the ones that approve the budget including salaries etc. If you layed everyone off at PowerSouth it would have little impact on operating costs as most of the costs is coal, natural gas and up keep of miles and miles of wire, poles, substations etc.

The city assisted the School board in repaying the bond issue to construct the AES. The agreement was for the city to contribute $500,000.00 out of the city’s operating budget per year until 2008. Once the city made their last $500,000 contribution, one would think the city administration would have $500,000 annually to spend as they saw fit. And all or part of the $500,000 could have been used to help the schools or for whatever worth while project. But the $500,000 had to be used to cover the principle payments of the city hall renovations that began in 2009.

It's truly sad that the Andalusia City Schools system has to struggle for funds. In Earl's first go around he arranged a capital improvement bond with its $500,000 (1/2 million $) annual payment to go from the school system to paying back the improvements to city hall. This money was used by the school system until last year. Until then we were only paying interest on the bond that financed the city hall work. It would have been nice for that 1/2 million, or aprt of it, to stayed with the city school system. BTW he is working a similar finance package on the Johnson Park and River Falls St rehab - paying interest only and then principle payments kick in a few years down the road. Where will that money come from?

I believe Andalusia School board is an elected position not appointed
On County doesn't expect to cut teachers
