Thought she was 14? "I thought the speed limit was 65, I'm sorry I was going 90... WOW that makes as much sense as what, she was 12? I thought she was 14... Her photo was deceiving? He was arrested for SEXUAL ACTIVITY not looking at her photo... a 12 year old body is physically different from a 14 year old body. We should ALL be saddened by this and realize the damage that has been done not only to the parties involved but Joseph's family and extended family, his friends and our community. I am appalled at the ignorance that has been displayed through several of the comments on this site.

Patrick is correct....how can we ever offer a fair and equal public education if public schools are free to choose their students... Are we advocating that some students are more desirable than others? But a teacher might agree more with biscuitsandhoney....what an easy job it would be to teach only the smart, rich kids... not having to worry about accommodating any disabilities or playing the role of mom, dad, counselor, or nurse. Oh what a wonderful day they could have and how successful their students could be if they didn't have to worry about any else except teaching. We better be careful what we wish for...

Just FYI: These figures are from the 2005 Alabama Department of Education Statistics.

•Average Teacher Salary (Bachelor’s Degree): $29,538

•Average Teacher Salary (PhD): $39,286

Teacher salaries in Alabama are near the bottom tier according to surveys by the American Federation of Teachers, which places Alabama 46th in the nation.

I hope the Star does read this comment. The Star News is delivered free to Andalusia City School on Wednesday, which is very nice but... would it be too much to ask that on that ONE day maybe the Star could use a tad more discretion when choosing the front page stories? My son's teacher said most Wednesdays she can't even pass them out!

Wow...really sorry that I didn't check back sooner! What I was talking about was the fact that the genitals were front and center.... on the front page. I guess most of you clever people will bash me because I don't happen to think genitalia is something that should greet me or my first grader in the mornings over coffee and toast.

That is the worst photo the Star News could have used... They could have exercised some class and used a more humane photo.
