A bomb threat Saturday evening at Winn Dixie caused a brief scare, according to Andalusia Police Chief Wilbur Williams, Jr.

The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m.

Williams said calls received by 911 seemed to indicate criminal mischief at the store.

He said officers responded,

and found everything to be in order after the store was cleared.

Moments later, Williams reported,

additional calls to 911 indicated there was a bomb in the store.

Officers returned to the store and information was discovered that a child had been seen on a telephone outside the store.

An investigation found a child fitting that description in the store, and the child, who was 10-years-old admitted to making the calls.

"We don't take anything for granted, and we take (threats such as the bomb threat) very seriously and do whatever we can do," said Williams. "We do not make the final decision, however, of whether to clear or close a store (because of a threat or under similar circumstances). We leave that up to the management of the store."
