Babe Ruth tournaments start this week

Four Babe Ruth baseball teams from Covington County will compete in tournaments beginning this week, with three area tournaments being held in Atmore, and two state tournaments being held in Andalusia.

The 13-year-old Andalusia Babe Ruth All-Stars and the 14-year-old Andalusia Babe Ruth All-Stars begin their quest for an area title today in Atmore.

The 13-year-old squad plays at 5:30 p.m. against the host team from Atmore. The winner of the Andalusia-Atmore game will play Brewton at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The loser will play at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.

The 14-year-old team from Andalusia begins its tournament at 8 p.m. tonight against the host team from Atmore. The winner of the Andalusia-Atmore game will play the Brewton All-Stars at 10 a.m. on Saturday. The losers of the first two games will play at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The 15-year-old Opp Babe Ruth All-Stars begin play in the Area Tournament on Friday when the Opp squad faces the host team from Atmore at 8 p.m. The winners of the Andalusia-Atmore game will play the Brewton All-Stars at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The losers of the first two games will square off at 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Covington County 16- to 18-year-old Babe Ruth team will be competing in the state tournament being held at Foshee Field on the campus of LBW Junior College.

The Covington County squad is scheduled to play a game against Huntsville-South at 8 p.m. on Friday. The winner will play Tallassee at 1 p.m. on Saturday and the loser's next game will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The tournament will begin with a 2 p.m. game on Friday when Bay Minette faces Atmore.

Three teams will be in Andalusia for the 16-year-old Babe Ruth State Tournament and those teams are Mobile County, Smiths Station and Pell City. The action begins at 5 p.m. on Friday when Mobile County faces Smiths Station. The winner of the Mobile County-Smiths Station game will face Pell City at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
