Disappointed in local graduation scheduling

Dear Editor:

Now that the area high school graduations are over, I would like to voice my disappointment, disbelief and frustration on the way these events are scheduled.

On May 23, of this year at 7 p.m., I had a grandson graduate from Andalusia High School. On the very same night, at the exact same time, I had a granddaughter graduate from Pleasant Home High School.

My husband went to our grandson's graduation and I went to our granddaughter's. It made me sick to know that we could not attend both of these occasions together. I talked to a school board official in Covington County and was told there was nothing that they could do about the scheduling of these events.

I can not believe that statement. No parent or grandparent should have to split up to attend these graduations. After all, a person only graduates from high school once. For the record, I would also like to add that their baccalaureate services were the same day, at the same time, at different churches. Any comments?
