Andalusia competes at World Series

The Andalusia Dixie Majors baseball team, representing the State of Alabama at the Dixie Majors World Series in Monroe, La., played the team representing the State of Louisiana on Monday at the University of Louisiana-Monroe's Indian Field.

Andalusia lost by a final score of 2-0. The loss eliminated Andalusia from the double-elimination tournament.

The game was scoreless through three innings with Louisiana taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chris Ferrell and Jonathan Colgin scored.

Louisiana's Steven Boulware pitched a complete game allowing just two hits and one walk. He struck out eight.

Daniel Wall and Will Starr had one hit each for Andalusia.

Brock Bracewell was the losing pitcher allowing two runs, both earned, on five hits and five walks in five innings of work. He struck out four. Mark Wall pitched one inning in relief and allowed one hit.

The Louisiana team defeated the North Carolina team 3-0 on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Louisiana team lost to the Mississippi Dixie Majors by a final score of 5-4. The loss sent the Louisiana team into the loser's bracket setting up a game against the Andalusia Dixie Majors at 4 p.m. on Monday.

The Andalusia Dixie Majors began the World Series with a 3-2 win against the Tennessee team in nine innings.

Tennessee took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning, but Andalusia rallied for one run in the bottom of the frame to send the game into extra innings.

Gene Pickard scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning when Ryan Mitchell drew a bases-loaded walk. Mitchell took ball four on a full-count offering with two outs.

Pickard powered the Andalusia offense with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with a triple. He also scored two runs and had two stolen bases in the game. Shane Dawsey was 1-for-4 in the game and scored one run. Ryan Mitchell was 1-for-3 in the game with one RBI. Gary Baumgartner was 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Brock Bracewell was the winning pitcher. He pitched 2 2/3 innings to get the win.

The win set up a game between Texas and Andalusia on Sunday.

Andalusia jumped on top 3-0 in the top of the first inning.

Texas rallied to take a 6-3 lead in the fifth inning and added two runs in the sixth on the way to an 8-5 win.

Andalusia attempted a seventh-inning rally, but came up short, scoring two runs.

Craig Phillips started the game on the mound for Andalusia and went the distance. He allowed eight runs (seven earned) during six innings of work on 10 hits and one walk. He struck out three.

Phillips contributed on offense for Andalusia, going 3-for-4 at the plate with one run scored and two RBIs. Shane Dawsey was 2-for-3 with one run scored. Brock Bracewell was 1-for-1 with one run scored. Mark Wall was 1-for-2 with one run scored. Daniel Wall was 1-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Jay Bryant and Will Starr had one RBI each.
