Disappointed in loss of JROTC

Dear Editor:

I am very disappointed the Andalusia High School has made a decision to drop the JROTC program and more disappointed in the poor participation by our young people. I hope this lack of participation is not an indication of lack of patriotism by our young people.

Maybe they will wait until high school or college to serve their country in the military. Every able-bodied male has an obligation to serve his country in the military and to die for his country. And every female should be given the opportunity to do so on an equal status with her male counterparts.

With the war on terrorism and Iraq, we need and I assume will get military service from our young people.

Pray God's wisdom for the civilian and military leaders in these very difficult times.

Leave the snakes alone

Dear Editor:

You should tell the guy that our snakes are on the endangered species, and if he will leave them alone, they will do the same for him. Anyone can take a shotgun kill something that can't shoot back.

Thanks,

Edmon Wheeler

(EDITOR'S NOTE: According the the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the eastern diamondback rattlesnake is not on the endangered or threatened species list. )
