According to spokespersons with the Covington County 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force (DTF), the DTF were able to make several arrests recently.

On Friday, at approximately 8:30 p.m., Conservation Officer Wesley Snodgrass made a vehicle stop on Hwy. 331 in Florala for reckless driving.

During the stop, Snodgrass located methamphetamine on a subject, identified as James Kevin Morris, 25, of Florala.

He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving and placed in the Covington County Jail on a $13,500 bond.

On Saturday, at approximately 11:51 p.m., a spokesperson said that Deputy Greg Jackson of the Covington County Sheriff's Department made a traffic stop on the West Bypass in Andalusia for a traffic violation.

Sergeant Chris Byrd utilized his K-9

unit, and the K-9 made a positive alert on the vehicle.

A further search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine and smoking devices.

Three were arrested, including Joseph R. Batson, 38, Allen M. Piland, 43 and Lisa Price, 38.

All are from Andalusia, but now live in Brewton.

All three subjects were charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were transported to the Covington County Jail on $13,000 bonds.

On Sunday, at approximately 8 p.m., Deputy Roger Cender with the Covington County Sheriff's Department made a traffic stop on Todd Jay Dearden, 35, of Andalusia.

During the stop, Cender requested that Paul Hudson of the Andalusia Police Department utilize his K-9 unit Szupar.

The K-9 unit made a positive alert on Dearden's vehicle for narcotics, and a further search revealed a small plastic tube which contained residue of methamphetamine.

Dearden was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was transported to the Covington County Jail, where his bond was set at $13,000.
