John Hill West

John Hill West, 85, a resident of Indian Shores, Fla. and long time resident of Andalusia, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002 in Woodside Hospice House, Tampa, Fla.

An alumni of Auburn University, he was a past president and member of Andalusia Country Club, served as president of the Lions Club and was a member of the Andalusia City Board of Education for 10 years. Mr. West was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he taught the Men's Bible class for many years.

His 60-year marriage to wife, Margaret Studstill West is an inspiration and true example of the love, commitment and friendship that is possible in lifelong relationships. He is survived by his son, Dr. John H. West and wife, Sherrod of Indian Shores; his grandchildren, John H. West III, Stephanie West, and Susanna West, all of Tampa; a niece, Millie West Lisenby of Greenville; and a nephew, Clarence H. West, III, of Cary, NC.

Known for his love and dedication to the Auburn Tigers, golf, and his family, Papa will be remembered as a gentle, sweet man of total integrity with a sharp sense of humor and a quick laugh. We were all blessed and honored to have Papa as the Patriarch of our family. The sun will shine less brightly in his absence.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 27 from Andalusia First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with burial following at Andalusia Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Foreman Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Woodside Hospice House, 6770, 102nd Ave. N. Pinellas Park, Fla. 33782 or The City of Andalusia Public Library.
