Chase ends in arrest

A resident of Pleasant Home is in the Covington County Jail after leading deputies on a chase on Monday evening, according to a press release from the sheriff's department.

Perry Randolph Maddox, 38, of Rt. 7 Andalusia, was arrested at approximately 9:19 p.m. on Monday on U.S. 29 near Pleasant Home School.

Covington County Sheriff's Sergeant Tim Hardage said the incident began just after 9 p.m. when Maddox was observed driving in a reckless manner on U.S. 29 near the Carolina community.

Officers attempted to stop Maddox's vehicle, but a high speed chase, however, followed.

Several minutes later, Maddox was stopped on U.S. 29.

Maddox was arrested by deputies on several charges, including reckless driving, attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, driving with a revoked drivers license, failure to use a safety belt, driving with an open alcohol container and felony driving under the influence.

Maddox was transported to the Covington County Jail, where his bail was set at $25,000.
