Three teams make state playoffs

The 2002 high school football regular season is not over yet, but region play ended last Friday night, meaning the playoff picture has taken shape.

Three teams from Covington County earned a spot in the state playoffs. The county will be represented in Class 1A, Class 2A and Class 3A next Friday night when the playoffs begin.

Pleasant Home (5-4, 5-2) will represent Covington County in Class 1A as the Region 2 runner-up with a home game against Region 1 third-place finisher Millry (6-3, 5-2) in first-round playoff action.

Red Level (7-2, 5-2) will represent Covington County in Class 2A as the third-place team from Region 2 with a road game against Region 1 runner-up Washington County (8-1, 6-1) in first-round playoff action.

Straughn (7-2, 5-2) will represent Covington County in Class 3A as the Region 1 runner-up with a home game against Region 2 third-place finisher LaFayette (6-2, 5-2) in first-round playoff action.
