AHS Bulldogs sweep Brantley

The Andalusia Bulldogs won the "Battle of the Bulldogs" on Monday with a sweep against the Brantley Bulldogs.

The AHS varsity boys' saw a 10-point lead evaporate, but held on for a 52-50 win.

Terrance Smith scored the winning points from the free-throw line with 4.6 seconds left in regulation.

Brantley had a last-second desperation shot from near halfcourt, but it was off target as Andalusia held on for the win.

Smith paced the Andalusia Bulldogs with 28 points in the win, including the game-winning free throws. Alvin Daniels added 12 points. Keli Junior and Andrae Wright scored four points each. Brandon Wilson and D'Rik Jackson had two points each.

Devin Person had 20 points for Brantley. Josh Daniels added 14 points and Devaris Skanes hit for 11. Terrell Foster had three points. Cedric Jones had two points.

ANDALUSIA WINS

GIRLS' GAME

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs topped the visiting Brantley Lady Bulldogs 51-37 Monday night after falling behind in the first half.

Andalusia went on top 10-9 in the first quarter only to have the Brantley squad mount a comeback and take a 21-20 lead into the halftime intermission.

In the second half, the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs came out more aggressive on defense and all but shutdown the Brantley Lady Bulldogs.

Andalusia went on a 6-0 run during the first four minutes of the second half to take a 26-21 lead.

By the time five minutes had ticked off the game clock in the third quarter, Andalusia had increased its lead to nine points.

Brantley finally scored its first points of the second half with 2:44 remaining in the third quarter.

When the third period ended, Andalusia held a comfortable 34-25 lead after outscoring Brantley 14-4.

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs began the fourth quarter in similar fashion going on a 9-0 run during the first three minutes of the period for a 43-25 lead.

Andalusia recorded a 51-37 win to improve to 16-9 on the season.

Tanesha Wright paced the Andalusia offense with 14 points. Michelle Wells also had a good night scoring 11 points against Brantley. Keishawna Wright added eight points and Ashley Johnson hit for six. Kathy Crittenden and Apri Kilgore had four points each. Jennifer Hayden and Tambre Gay had two points each.

Tamacina Burnett had 14 points for Brantley. Sherry Gulley added 13 in the loss.

B-TEAM SCRIMMAGES

The Red squad topped the White squad 43-23 in a scrimmage prior to the girls' game on Monday.

Jacob Cauley scored 12 points for the Red team. Michael McTyere added 10 points. D'Andre Lee had seven points for the winning team.

Alex Taylor, Tyler Centner and Chris Cotton added four points each.

The White team was paced by Christian Goldsmith's nine points. Charles Baker and Joseph Weatherall added six points each. Jared McNeil had two points.
