Bears sweep Saints

The Bevill-Fayette Bears celebrated Smokey the Bear's birthday with a two-game sweep of the LBW Saints in baseball action Friday.

The Bears held off a late charge by the Saints for a 10-9 win in the first game.

LBW went on top 4-1 in the bottom of the first inning, but the Bears cut the lead to one run in the top of the second inning by scoring two runs.

In the top of the third, the Bears erased the one-run deficit and took a 6-4 lead.

The score was tied at 6-6 after four innings of play and LBW went on top 7-6 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Bevill-Fayette answered the Saints rally with one of its own in the top of the sixth to go back on top by a score of 8-7.

The Saints attempted to come from behind to win the game, but a two-out rally came up short in the seventh inning as the Bears claimed a 10-9 victory.

Chase Amis was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Saints in the first game with two runs scored and one RBI.

Austin Stein also had a big game at the plate for LBW going 2-for-4 with one run scored and four RBIs.

Bryan Mosley went 2-for-4 at the dish with one run scored and one RBI.

Josh Terrell was 1-for-3 in the first game and scored two runs. He also had one RBI.

David Williamson also scored a run and had an RBI. Chris Copeland and David Ezell scored one run each. Ben Woods had one RBI.

In the second game, LBW went on top 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

The Bears tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the third only to watch the Saints go back on top in the bottom of the fourth by a score of 2-1.

The Bears answered with two runs in the top of the fifth for a 3-2 lead.

The Saints came back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-3 edge.

The Bears, however, were not done and rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh and then held the Saints scoreless in the bottom of the inning for a 7-4 victory.

Jonathan Rasberry was 2-for-3 with a home run. He scored one run and had two RBIs.

Jordan Mills was 2-for-3 for the Saints in the second game and scored two runs.

Woods was 2-for-3 and had two RBIs.

Williamson was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
