State in a financial crisis?

Dear Editor:

Can anyone tell me why it's a financial crisis when state government doesn't have enough money to pay for all the "wish-list" projects that they want to fund?

Even knowing that tax revenues can't support the current spending levels, almost every state agency in existence has begun begging for substantial funding increases. This spedning-binge is irresponsbile at best, and deliberately exploitive at worst.

These types of "financial crises" can be caused by two basic factors: not enough money, or too much spending. It's clear that most of this so-called crisis is being caused by unrealtistic and unsustainable spending increases.

If you could imagine a world where politicians treated taxpayer money with respect and spent that money with careful consideration and restraint

Alabama would not be in that world.
