The Covington Center Arena will be rocking and roaring this weekend when TBO Entertainment brings the first ever Monster Motornationals to Andalusia.

This event, scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights at 8 p.m., and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. will be "something for the whole family," according to TBO Entertainment's Tom Bougus.

"Our show is more of a family-oriented show than most of the monster truck shows," Bougus said. "We try to include things that will attract and interest every member of the family."

Among the stars of the show, the legendary monster truck, Bearfoot, will be appearing.

"It's really unusual to have such a famous truck like Bearfoot at a smaller venue," he said. "Andalusia is lucky to have such a high profile truck coming. Normally Bearfoot and Monster Patrol (another famous monster truck) don't do smaller venues. This is a great opportunity."

Perhaps the most familiar of monster truck events, car crushing, will be on the performance schedule for all three shows, Bougus said.

"Yes, the trucks will be racing and crushing cars," he said. "The Covington Center Arena provides us with plenty of room for a complete show, and we will have everything. Actually, we'll have more floor space there (in Andalusia) than we have at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery. We don't typically go into smaller towns, but with Andalusia's newer building, and the interest we've had from the areas around there, we thought it would be a pretty popular show."

In addition to the monster trucks, TBO will be bringing in FMX, or Freestyle Motorcross.

"FMX is the type of motorcycle competition you see on the X-Games," Bougus said. "These guys are jumping 30 to 40 feet into the air on motorcycles. It's not the typical motorcross most people grew up with. It's a lot of fun and excitement."

Also on tap for the shows are Battlebots - the popular robot competition from television.

"The Battlebots will be performing each day," Bougus said. "This is really popular for the kids, and it's something new for us. When I went and first picked up the robots, I wasn't expecting how big they would be. They're very heavy. It's heavy metal and heavyweight.

"The Battlebots appeal to the high-tech person - people who are into engineering, and the robots have opened up a whole new type of customer for us."

The robots battle each other for five minutes, and the last one still standing or operating wins, Bougus said.

"Sparks can fly," he said about the robot fights. "It's a lot of fun to watch them."

Bougus said each show will last for more than two hours, meaning families will definitely get their money's worth.

"It's a good evening of action-packed family entertainment," he said. "It's loud though, so we sell earplugs, or you can bring your own."

As an added attraction, Bougus said Bearfoot will be on display at Massey Automotive in Andalusia Saturday afternoon from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for an up-close and personal look at this icon of monster truck madness.
