Half of the Andalusia youth basketball All-Star teams are headed to state after winning District Tournaments last weekend.

Both the Andalusia 10-and-under boys All-Stars and the Andalusia 12-and-under girls All-Stars earned the right to compete at State Tournaments.

ANDALUSIA ALL-STARS WIN DISTRICT CROWN

The boys did so with a 35-22 win against the Enterprise All-Stars in the District Tournament Championship Game. D.L. Smith paced the Andalusia squad with 14 points in the victory. O'Brien Curry added eight points in the win. Derrick King hit for six points. Terrance Anderson had four points and Aaron Haag added three points in the win.

The Andalusia All-Stars advanced to the title game with wins against Geneva and Troy.

Andalusia defeated Troy 31-20 as King scored 14 points to led the charge. Curry had seven points and Smith had six. Anderson and Haag had two points each in the win against Troy.

The Andalusia All-Stars topped Geneva in their first game of the tournament by a final score of 36-28. Curry was the leading scorer in the first game with 14 points. Smith added six points. Marcus Ingram hit for five points. Anderson and Corinthian Sims had four points each. King had two points. Lee Enzor had one point in the win.

The members of the Andalusia 10-and-under All-Stars are D.L. Smith, Derrick King, Terrance Anderson, Robbie Wagner, Marcus Ingram, DeUnta Benson, Corinthian Sims, Aaron Haag, O'Brien Curry, Lee Enzor, Assistant Coach Joe Wagner and Head Coach Alfagus Smith.

The 10-and-under Andalusia All-Stars will compete in the State Tournament in Alexander City beginning March 14.

Lady All-Stars Dominate District

The Andalusia 12-and-under girls All-Stars won the District 8 Tournament in Greenville held February 28-March 1 to advance to the State Championship Tournament in Sylacauga. The Andalusia All-Stars won the 10-team tournament by outscoring their opponents 137-47 in four games. The All-Star Team members are Blanche Alverson, Holley Bass, Morgen Battey, D’Amber Chambers, Jeressa Curry, Ebony Heard, Chantavia Lawrence and Jasmine Peacock.

On Friday, February 28, the Andalusia All-Stars defeated Ozark 34-7.

Each team member contributed offensively for Andalusia. Alverson and Chambers had seven points each. Battey, Curry, Heard and Peacock each added four points. Bass and Lawrence added two points each.

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs had to play three games within five hours to take the title.

At 11 a.m., the Lady Bulldogs defeated Headland by a final score of 37-4 with another balanced attack. Bass, Chambers and Lawrence each scored six points. Alverson, Battey and Curry had five points each. Peacock added four points in the win.

In the semifinals scheduled at 1 p.m., the Andalusia All-Stars defeated the 2002 district champions from Geneva by a score of 25-15. Bass was the leading scorer with 12 points. Chambers added eight points.

Alverson and Battey added three and two points, respectively. Curry, Heard, Lawrence and Peacock contributed to the victory with stingy defensive play.

After only a 30-minute break, the Andalusia All-Stars faced Troy in the District 8 Championship Game.

At halftime, Andalusia held a 20-12 lead. The Lady Bulldogs held Troy to only three points in the third quarter and six points in the fourth quarter to win the District 8 Title by a final score of 41-21. Bass contributed 15 points. Battey, Heard and Peacock each added six. Chambers had 4 points in the win. Alverson and Curry each added two points. each in the title game

The All-Stars will represent District 8 in the State Tournament beginning on March 14. Games will be played at Sylacauga High School.
