The Straughn Tigers sweep the visiting Pleasant Home Eagles in junior high school basketball action Thursday.

The evening of basketball began with an exciting game and ended with a one-sided game in which Pleasant Home Head Coach Shane Varnadoe was ejected after picking up his second technical foul of the game.

Varnadoe was ejected in the third quarter of the 8th-grade junior high school boys' game when he and Straughn Head Coach Mike Buckelew exchanged words.

Varnadoe complained to Buckelew to quit running up the score with the Straughn Tigers on top by 30 points in the third quarter.

Buckelew told him to worry about his own team.

The referee called timeout and brought the coaches together at midcourt in front of the scorer's table in an attempt to calm them down. It didn't work.

The two coaches continued to argue and both were issued technical fouls. It was Varnadoe's second technical foul of the game which resulted in his ejection.

Varnadoe's first technical came in the first half when he argued that the Tigers could not have four players on the lane when one of his players was attempting a free throw.

The referee told him he was wrong and he was hit with a technical foul moments later when he told the referee he did not know the rules.

Straughn won the 8th-grade boys' game by a final score of 47-23.

Von Clayborn had 19 points to lead the way. Trenton Driver had 12 points. Trent Bonham had 4. Mitchell Myers, Seth Kinsaul, Trevor Driver, Shawn Savage, David Clark and Michael Bishop had 2 points each for the Tigers.

Robbie Weaver had 16 points for the Eagles. Chris Peacock added 3. Tanner Crater and Sidney McKathan had 2 points each.

In the 7th-grade boys' game, the Straughn Tigers put their undefeated record on the line against the undefeated Eagles.

Straughn came away with a 35-28 win, despite scoring just one point in the fourth quarter, to remain undefeated.

Cole Armstrong was the leading scorer for Straughn with 10 points. Trae Bowen had 9 points. Ryne Taylor added 7. Tyler Yelverton had 5 points and Kyle Thornton scored 4 points for Straughn.
