Tolbert named to All-State squad

Red Level junior Frank Tolbert was named to the Class 2A All-State Second Team on Friday.

Tolbert was announced as one of the top 10 Class 2A players in the state at the Alabama Sports Writers Association Player of the Year Banquet hosted by Birmingham Southern College.

Tolbert was a driving force for the Tigers during the 2002-2003 season that ended with a loss to eventual Class 2A State Champion R.C. Hatch at the Southwest Regional in Mobile.

Tolbert averaged 23 points per game during the regular season and scored 38 points in one game.

He shot 55 percent from the field during the regular season and 73 percent from the free-throw line. He was on target 29 percent of the time for three-point range. He amassed 531 points during the first 23 games of the season.

Tolbert was more than just a scorer. He also logged 210 rebounds, averaging nine boards per game. Tolbert had 69 assists during the regular season for an average for three per game.

He also had 47 blocked shots and 47 steals.
