Lady Eagles rally past Lady Bulldogs

Hits were scare when the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs squared off against the Pleasant Home Lady Eagles in high school softball action yesterday.

The Lady Eagles erased a 2-0 deficit to claim a 3-2 win in the low-scoring game.

Andalusia went on top 2-0 in the top of the first inning. Katie Tyler started the game by drawing a walk and moved to second when Ashley Johnson reached on an one-out single.

Pleasant Home starting pitcher struck out the next batter, for her second K of the game, but Lindsey Carr kept the rally going by drawing a walk to load the bases.

Tyler and Johnson scored when Kayla Brown reached base on an infield single. Carr moved to third on the hit.

Brown stole second to get into scoring position, but the Lady Eagles got out of the inning when Kimberly Jacobs struck out the next batter.

Pleasant Home failed to score in the bottom of the inning and Andalusia did not have a batter reach base in the top of the second.

Kimberly Jacobs got a fly out and two more strikeouts to keep the Lady Bulldogs off the bases in the second. He struck out eight batters in the game.

The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Lady Eagles scored three runs on a walk, two hits and a fielder's choice.

The bottom of the fifth started with Carly Lundy flying out to center field. Beth Cox then reached on a walk and stole second.

Brittney Blount singled to get to first base and keep the Lady Eagles' rally going.

Britni Ballard followed Blount with a ground ball to short and reached on a

fielder's choice. The Andalusia shortstop threw to third to try and get an out, but it was not in time. Lundy scored on the play.

Blount and Ballard scored later in the inning when Amy Jacobs belted a two-out, two-RBI single.

Heather Self tried to get the Lady Bulldogs even with the Lady Eagles leading off the top of the sixth inning with a single. She, however, was retired later in the inning on a fielder's choice by Hayden Odom. The Lady Eagles got out of the inning when Kimberly Jacobs struck out her eighth batter of the game.

Pleasant Home failed to add to its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning, but kept Andalusia from scoring in the top of the seventh to secure a 3-2 win.

In the JV game, the Lady Eagles earned a 9-6 win.

Andalusia went on top 3-0 in the top of the first inning when Kobe Luckie-Smith, Hannah Bush and Lauren Carroll scored.

Pleasant Home answered with four runs in the bottom of the first when Jessi Reeves, Jessica Johnson, Krystal Lee and Kim Phillips scored.

The Lady Bulldogs tied the score at 4-4 in the second when Luckie-Smith scored her second run of the game.

Jessica Majors, Lee and Phillips put Pleasant Home back on top when they scored in the bottom of the third.

Rachel Arnett scored in the top of the fourth inning for Andalusia to get within two of the Lady Eagles at 7-5.

Pleasant Home responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Erin Kervin and Allison Kelley (as a pinch runner for Michelle Odom) scored.

Carroll scored in the top of the fifth for the Lady Bulldogs, but it was not enough as the Lady Eagles held on for the win.

The Andalusia and Pleasant Home teams are slated to square off again on Monday with the action beginning at 4 p.m.
