Believes city taking away right of choice

Dear Editor:

The city of Andalusia is attempting to "bid out" ambulance service in Andalusia. This means as a citizen under this new contract, you will no longer have a choice in which service you prefer as your ambulance provider. Additionally, the city of Andalusia will be paying for this service with your tax dollars and then you will be liable for an ambulance bill in addition to your tax dollars. This is double dipping and in my opinion is wrong.

As the owner of Faith EMS, I feel this move by the city is not in the best interest of the citizens of Andalusia. Even if Faith EMS was awarded the contract, it would still take away your right to choose if you so desired. Since January 1st of this year, Faith EMS has provided service along with Andalusia Rescue Squad and the citizens of Andalusia have been well taken care of. There is no good reason to change a system that has been working without problems. If the City leaders are attempting to do what is best for the citizens, it seems they would get the citizens opinion, maybe by having a referendum to vote on.

As citizens of the United States, we are afforded the right to free speech, free enterprise and the right to choose our medical care provider. I am urging you to make your voices be heard. Whether you are for this measure or opposed to it, letting your opinion count is the only way that the majority will rule and not the city officials.

Sincerely,

Douglas Tisdale

President, Faith EMS
