The Gantt Police Department, with the help of the River Falls Police Department, the Red Level Police Department and the Covington County Sheriff's Department, apprehended a subject on a motorcycle following a high-speed chase Wednesday morning.

Apparently the chase was initiated by Chief Kevin Owens of the Gantt Police Department, who began a pursuit of a subject, 25-year-old Basil W. Thompson of Andalusia.

Thompson was spotted near First Baptist Church and Owens began a pursuit of him for

reckless driving and Owens said he initiated his blue lights after he noticed Thompson crossing the center line.

Owens said he traveling on East Three Notch Street and was on the way to the Covington County E-911 when he initially spotted Thompson.

During an attempt to pull Thompson over, the subject allegedly fled and this led to a chase which ultimately proceeded through various places in Andalusia, on Deveraux Hill into River Falls, and agents with the River Falls Police Department and the Covington County Sheriff's Department joined the chase in assistance to Gantt officers.

Richard Moss of the River Falls Police Department said Thompson was traveling in excess of 150 miles per hour during the pursuit.

The chase proceeded to County Road 7 and the subject lost control of his motorcycle near a residence in the vicinity of the Loango community.

Following this, Thompson was apprehended by Investigator Scott Conner of the Covington County Sheriff's Department.

Thompson was placed into the Covington County Jail and was charged with nine traffic violations and three criminal charges of reckless driving.
