SHS Lady Tigers top Red Level, Geneva County

Two wins in two days - that is what the Straughn Lady Tigers did in high school softball action this week.

The Straughn squad topped Red Level 9-7 on Thursday.

Ali Taunton was 2-for-2 in the win. Cristin Sasser and Laci Grissett were both 2-for-4 in the win.

Also getting hits for Straughn were Courtney McLelland, Codie Yelverton, Ashley Turner and Andrea Cochran.

Straughn's Lady Tigers followed up Thursday's win with an 18-12 win against Geneva County. The game was called in the sixth inning due to darkness.

Heather Grantham was the starting pitcher for Straughn and went the distance to get the win.

Geneva County scored six runs in the first inning, but Straughn responded with nine runs.

Cochran, Sasser, Turner, McKena Parker, Joy Jones, Yelverton, McLelland and Taunton each scored in the inning. Cochran scored two runs in the inning.

The Lady Tigers added to their score in the second inning when Turner and Yelverton scored again. Parker and a two-RBI double in the inning.

Cochran and Turner scored in the third inning for Straughn.

In the fourth inning, the Lady Tigers got more run support when Cochran, Sasser, Turner, Grissett and McLelland each scored.

The Straughn Lady Tigers are slated to return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 1 at Elba.
