Brantley no match for PHS Lady Eagles

The Brantley Lady Bulldogs scored one run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead against the homestanding Pleasant Home Lady Eagles in high school softball action Tuesday.

It was all Pleasant Home the rest of the game.

The Lady Eagles plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead and never looked back.

Carly Lundy, Britni Ballard and Amy Jacobs scored for Pleasant Home in the first inning.

The Lady Eagles added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning with seven more runs.

Faith Gunter, Lundy, Brittney Blount, Ballard, Amy Jacobs, Kayla Wiggins and Marcie Mullen each scored in the third inning for Pleasant Home.

The winning run came in the fifth inning for a victory via the 10-run mercy rule.

Hannah Kelley reached base on a two-out walk. She moved to second when Leah Turman drew a walk.

Salynn Mullen came up to bat with the winning run in scoring position and came through with an RBI-single to end the game.

The Lady Eagles return to the diamond Thursday when they travel to Kinston for another important area game.

The Lady Eagles are currently 11-2 overall and undefeated in area play.
