Lady Bobcats claw out win

A 13-5 win against the Straughn Lady Tigers in high school softball action improved the Opp Lady Bobcats' record to 4-5 on the season.

The Lady Bobcats went on top 1-0 in the top of the first inning when Brianne Nawlin scored after reaching base on a single. She scored on a ground out by Trinity Osborn.

The Lady Bobcats clawed out two more runs in the top of the second inning for a 3-0 lead.

Ashley Mock started the rally with a single. Crystal Scarborough kept the offense going with another single. Meredith Mikel made the two singles pay dividends with a two-RBI double.

The Opp Lady Bobcats, however, were not done scoring.

The Lady Bobcats scratched out four more runs in the top of the third inning to stretch their lead to 7-0.

Kasi Cravey reached on a walk and then scored when Osborn hit a two-run homer.

Christen Short followed Osborn's blast with a walk. Ashley Mock also reached on a walk to set the table for Scarborough. She came up big with a two-RBI double for the Lady Bobcats.

Osborn reached base on a triple in the top of the fourth and came around to score. Short had an RBI in the inning.

The Straughn Lady Tigers got on the scoreboard with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cas Sasser, Ashley Turner, Codie Yelverton and Carrie Harold scored. Harold and Laci Grissett had RBI-doubles in the inning.

Opp scored three runs in the top of sixth inning as Natasha Archie, Meagan Richburg and Cravey scored. Richburg and Cravey had RBI-hits in the inning.

Opp added to its lead in the top of the seventh inning when Kelley Davis, Lacy Wade and Cravey scored. Nawlin and Cravey had RBI-hits in the inning.

Straughn attempted a last-inning rally, but only managed to score one run when Sasser rounded the bases after reaching on a single.

Cravey was the winning pitcher for Opp.

Opp came into the game off an 11-8 win against Greenville on Tuesday.

The Lady Bobcats play again on Tuesday when they host the Brantley Lady Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m.

The Straughn Lady Tigers return to the diamond today with a 4 p.m. game against Samson. The game will be played at Straughn.
