The first area game of the season ended with a

win for the Straughn Tigers in baseball action Friday.

The Tigers hosted the Abbeville Yellow Jackets and repaid them for basketball season with a 12-2 blowout victory.

The Tigers went on top 2-0 in the first inning and had a 5-0 lead after two innings.

A late home run by Justin Clark sent three more runs in as the Tigers cruised to a 12-2 win in five innings.

Clark started off the scoring in the first inning when he reached base on a lead-off single and came around to score.

He moved to second on an error by the pitcher and scored on an RBI-single by Chris Watts.

Watts stole second to get into scoring position and then advanced to third on a sacrifice fly to center field by Daniel Turner.

Watts raced home on a wild pitch before the Yellow Jackets could get out of the inning.

In the second inning, Brent Hinds started the Tigers off with a lead-off walk. Daniel Beckworth came in as a courtesy runner for the Straughn catcher and stole second. He went to third on a ground out by Jared Armstrong. Moments later, Beckworth scored on a

passed ball.

Jamie Straughn also reached on a walk in the inning and came around to score. He stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly to center off Watts' bat. Clark got aboard when he was hit by a pitch and stole second to set the table for Bart Beam.

Beam dug into the batter's box with runners at second and third and came through with a hard-hit ball to the outfield. Two runs scored on the hit, but the inning ended when Beam was thrown out at second trying to stretch his base hit into a double.

The Tigers scored seven more runs in the game while only giving up two for a 12-2 win in five innings.

Justin Bracewell was the winning pitcher for the Tigers.

The Straughn Tigers will be back on the baseball diamond Saturday when they host the Elba Tigers. The first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
