Opp tops Straughn

The Opp Lady Bobcats earned an 11-1 win against Straughn in six innings in high school softball action Thursday.

Straughn went on top 1-0 in the first inning when Cristin Sasser knocked in Andrea Cochran with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Straughn remained in front 1-0 until the second inning when Opp went on top 3-1.

Meaghan Richburg reached on a walk and scored on an RBI-single by Crystal Scarbrough. Lacey Wade also had an RBI-single in the inning to plate Scarbrough. Wade scored later in the inning on an RBI-single by Brianne Nawlin.

Opp added another run in the third inning when Richburg scored again after drawing a

walk. She also scored in the fourth inning.

In the fifth inning, Jamie Croft scored on an RBI-hit by Wade. Scarbrough also scored in the inning on an RBI-single by Nawlin.

The Lady Bobcats added four more runs in the sixth inning to end the game. Kim Coxwell, Croft, Kelley Davis and Natasha Archie each scored in the inning for Opp.

Croft was the winning pitcher for Andalusia.

The win improves Opp's record to 9-9 on the season. The Lady Bobcats are slated to play again Monday at Kinston High School. The game is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
