As early as the taking of the 1850 Federal Census, there were members of the Lambert family residing in Covington County. The household of John Lambert was enumerated with him being 51 years of age and working as a carpenter. His state of birth was listed as New York and that of his wife, Mary who was 46 years old, as Georgia. They had three children, all born in Alabama, with them: Eliza, 14; Wiley, 10; and Mary, 7.

During the same year as the census, John A. was commissioned as Constable for Covington County, Beat Three. He was listed as Vice-constable for the same beat in 1851. John was not found on the 1860 census, but a J.J. Lambert was named as a registered voter on the 1868 Supplemental List for Covington County.

There were two Lambert households enumerated in the 1870 census for Covington County. One of these was E. Lambert, 23 years of age, and his wife, Mary, 17 years old. The other was the family of Alex Lambert, 65 years of age. With him were the following: A., 20; G.A., 17; C.D., 21; Arena, 15; and D., 10. This second family is the one who will be featured in today's writing.

Alex Wesley Lambert was the son of Isaac and Abigail Lambert, born during the 1780s. Alex was born in 1807 and was married in 1835 to Lina Lilly Loften, who was born in 1819. Since the Alex Lambert family was enumerated in the 1870 Census of Covington County, it appears they moved here sometime during the 1860s.

First, the son listed as G.A. is most certainly Green A. Lambert who was enumerated in the 1900 census of Covington County. His household at that time in the Red Level Precinct included his wife, Fanny, shown as being 35 years of age and the following children: Ada, 14; Lottie, 12; Mollie, 11; John, 9; Charles, 5; Levi, 5; Edith, 2; and Green, one month. Further genealogy on this particular line is not readily known at this time, and none of the other Lambert families were found in the 1900 census for Covington.

Among Alex and Abigail's children was a son, Charles Daffin Lambert, who was born in 1855 in Monroe County, Alabama. This means the family moved east to settle in Covington County. In 1879, Charles D. was married to Ella Neel, who was born in 1855 in Butler County.

Charles D. and Ella reared the following children: Rebecca, b. 1880, m. Tom Watson; Alex Wesley, b. 1881, d. 1940, m. 1905 Nancy Elizabeth Little; Anna Beatrice, b. 1883, d. 1975, m. 1900 William Terry Prestwood; Daffin Cleveland, b. 1885, d. 1964, m. Harriett Lula Mock; Leola, b. 1887, m. Gus Hutcheson; Charles Edward, b. 1889, d. 1955, m. 1916 Flora Mae Reeves; Marion E., b. 1890, d. 1957, m. Della Kirkland; Armer Lilly, b. 1892, m. Ben Neel; and Robert E. Lee, b. 1896, m. Priscilla Ammons.

The oldest daughter, Rebecca, and her husband, John Thomas "Tom" Watson, resided in the Loango community. They had the following children: Earnest, b. 1899, m. 1922 Alma Smith; Wilmer, b. 1905, m. Marie Mims; Gnettie, b. 1907, m. Arthur Godwin; William Carnell, b. 1909, d. 1991, m. Carmi Lou Grissett; and Alton, b. 1916, m. Obie Ree Spivey.

The oldest son, Alex W., and his wife, Nancy, reared the following children: William Henry, b. 1906, d. 1984, m. Nora Eloise Hudson; Bessie Lou, b. 1909, d. 1988, m. Fred Kirkland; Girden Wesley, b. 1912, m. 1936 Fannie Orean Tanner; Clarence Cleveland, b. 1914, m. 1950 Gursie Burnett; John Daffin, b. 1917, m. 1952 Jettie Holland; Ellen Elizabeth, b. 1919, m. 1947 Emmett Douglas Wilbanks; and Roy Richard, b. 1921, m. 1940 Claudie Mae Cooper.

The next daughter, Anner B. and her husband, Terry Prestwood, son of James Austin and Abbie (Gunter) Prestwood, reared the following children: Carla Angra, b. 1901, d. 1983, m. 1917 William E. Peevy; Trammel Wesley, b. 1903, d. 1910; Dovia Talma, b. 1906, d. 1970, m. 1929 Inez Shears; Charlie Marion, b. 1908, d. 1964, m. 1930 Marguerite Jackson; Judge Tyson, b. 1911, d. 1946, m. 1934 Vonner Ammons; Alice Grace, b. 1914, d. 1930; Virginia Voncile, b. 1917, m. 1943 Sam Price Jones; William Wiley Louis, b. 1922, m. 1941 (1) Mary ? (2) Vera ?; James Austin, b. 1926, d. 1979, m. Marie Foshee; and Thomas Athey, b. 1928, m. Mildred Williams.

The next son, Daffin Cleveland, and his wife, Harriet Lula Mock, reared the following children: Ralph Samuel, b. 1910, m. 1937 Coydella Smith; Eula Eunice, b. 1912, d. 1971, m. 1929 Wilmer Findley; Bena, b. 1914, m. Arthur Phillips; Alice, b. 1919, m. 1936 Hilton Dozier; Willard Bengiam, b. 1920, m. 1942 Nellie Mae Catoe; Curtis Cleveland, b. 1930, m. Shirley Jones; and Madie Lou, b. 1933, m. Jack Beesley.

The next son, Charles Edward, and his wife, Flora, had the following children: Charles Clifton, b. 1917, d. 1985, m. 1949 Marie McKennedy; Ellen Vera, b. 1919, m. 1949 Henry Madison Maddox; Huey Manson, b. 1922, m. 1950 Margaret Evelyn McCord; Eleanor Grey, b. 1927, m. 1946 Fred Merle Tobias; Joseph Harlon, b. 1920; and Carlton Dewey, b. 1941, m. Joyce Ann Melnychenko.

The next son, Marion E., and his wife, Della Kirkland, daughter of Wiley and Mary Kirklin, reared the following children: Bernice Edward, b. 1913, m. Marjorie Brooks; Kattie Mae, b. 1916, d. 1965, m. Charlie Goodman; Cleve, b. 1918, d. 1985, m. Jena D. Straughn; Dudley, b. 1921, d. 1963, m. 1947 Harley Patterson; Elon, b. 1923, m. 1941 Hiram Clyde Turner; Jessie Mack, b. 1926, m. 1963, m. Betty Voncile Bundy; and Mary Ellen, b. 1929, m. Larry Benson Lowe.

The youngest son, Robert E. Lee, and his wife, Priscilla, reared the following three children: Oda Ree, b. 1921, m. 1946 Mark H. Peevy; Marcus Alton, b. 1923, m. 1947 Mary Elizabeth Dearman; and Carmon Orsin, b. 1926, m. (1) Loretta Street (2) Edna ?.
