The chase of an Andalusia suspect resulted in a drug arrest Thursday afternoon in the Gantt area, according to the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force Commander.

Edward Presley Morrison, 38, was apprehended by DTF officials at approximately 2:45 p.m. after a call was taken in reference to a possible criminal trespassing incident, the commander said.

"The DTF agents attempted to make contact with the suspect, who fled on his vehicle," said the DTF commander. "He led the officers on a brief chase through a cotton field until they caught up with and blocked him to a stop.

"During the vehicle pursuit, no vehicle, property, or personal injury took place," he continued. "The incident took place on private property off Austin Road in the Gantt area."

Since Morrison was under suspicion, the DTF commander said officers at the scene requested a K-9 unit - the Andalusia Police dog named Szupar.

"(The dog) along with another DTF agent conducted a search for contraband (in the vehicle). A small amount of marijuana and several tablets (controlled substance) were found."

According to the DTF commander, the tablets were identified as methadone, a type of prescription drug, but the suspect didn't have a prescription for the tablets.

Morrison was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia - in which rolling papers were allegedly found. The bond amount for the separate accounts of the drug possession charges were placed at $10,000 each and the paraphernalia added another $3,000 to the total amount.

Morrison was released on a property bond from the Covington County Jail the day of the arrest.
