Lady Tigers top Brantley

The Straughn varsity girls' basketball players showed the Brantley Lady Bulldogs why they are ranked No. 9 in the state in Class 3A last night.

The Lady Tigers outscored the visiting Lady Bulldogs 53-33 for a win to improve to 14-3 on the season.

Danielle Beasley was the leading scorer with 18 points. Andrea Cochran and Ashley Daniels added 10 points each. Abby Bracewell had 8 points.

Also scoring for Straughn were McKena Parker, Morgan Watson and Allye Stokes.

Sherry Gulley was the leading scorer for Brantley with 20 points in the loss.

Straughn went on top 10-5 in the first quarter and never looked back.

The Lady Tigers held a 19-13 lead at the halftime break and stretched the lead to 8 points in the third period.

The fourth frame began with Straughn on top 34-22 and when the final horn sounded the Lady Tigers had recorded a 20-point win.

In B-team action, the Straughn Tigers defeated Brantley 54-31.

Jason Cotton was the leading scorer for Straughn with 17 points. Justin Freeney added 10 points. Justin Dortch hit for 9 points.

Andrew Carter ended the game with 8 points. Cedric Marshall had 5. Trevor Driver scored 3 and Trenton Driver had 2.

In the varsity boys' game, Straughn fell to Brantley's Bulldogs by a final score of 74-63.

Darryl Weeks paced the Bulldogs with 21 points.

Sterling Driver was the leading scorer for Straughn with 21 points.

All three Straughn teams are back in action toady when the Ariton Purple Cats visit. The B-team game tips off at 4:30 p.m.

Straughn goes on the road Monday to play at Geneva County. The B-team game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
