An enthusiastic crowd was on hand last Saturday night at the Greenville High School Auditorium as family, friends and fans cheered on their favorites of the 54 contestants vying for Miss GHS. The hopefuls arrived on stage to a Valentine theme of &uot;Love is in the Air!&uot;

It was junior Danita Crenshaw, sponsored by YME and Proverbs International Bookstore, who took the crown as the 2005 Miss GHS. First runner up, sponsored by Hampton Inn and Global Security, was La ‘Teya Barganier, and Tenesha Womack, sponsored by N & N Catering, was chosen as the second runner up.

Other contestants placing in the Top 10 were Kimberly Powell, Olivia Glenn, Angela Crenshaw, Aundrea Poole, Lacey Touchstone, Leslie Palmer and Judy Schofield. (In an interesting side note, Glenn’s peach bouffant dress was the one worn by her grandmother, Margaret Pierce, in the 1955 Miss GHS Pageant).

Along with their appearance on stage Saturday night, contestants were also judged by interviews held earlier in the week and ranked by their scholastic performance this school year.

Trophies were awarded to Halie Burnette as the Overall Scholastic Winner and to Mandy Jernigan as the Overall Interview Winner. The contestants voted Daie Johnson as Miss Congeniality.

Leigh Taylor of Crestview, Fla. and Miss Greater Greenville, Christen Clarke of Mobile, were both on hand to lend their vocal prowess to the evening’s entertainment.

The annual pageant is put on as a fundraiser by the GHS Boomerang Staff, led by advisor Mollie Utley.
