Good move on adopting the uniform policy

We would like to give our kudos to the Butler County Board of Education for their recent majority decision to adopt a uniform policy of dress for the Butler County School System.

This is an idea that has been a long time in the making, but one we believe will only improve our children's self esteem, work ethic and be another part of taking our schools from good to great.

Change is never easy in any aspect of life, but we believe that given some time to work, we will look back and wonder why this decision wasn't made years ago.

To the committees who have worked so hard to get this policy ready for the board, we offer our sincere thanks and congratulations for the time you invested in making this a reality.

It's very simple really.

Schools are in the "business of learning."

It is where the next lawyers, bankers, CPA's, doctors and others will learn the fundamentals of working in the community. One of the basics of our working class culture is conservative dress, dress codes, and yes, even uniforms.

The board made the right decision by using a committee to study the policy, both the good and the bad, and we look forward to seeing it come to fruition in the next school year. We're sure that the committee heard both the pro and con of this issue, but we believe that the positive does far outweigh the negative in this issue.

We also agree with board member Billy Jones. While he voted against the policy, he is correct in saying that this new policy needs to be enforced to it's letter, in all our county schools.
