Through the first few games of the season for the Fort Dale Lady Eagles, improvements have been seen. From the most minute to the biggest leap, the Lady Eagles have tweaked their games to make them more competitive.

On Thursday night, all the tweaking and working paid off as the Lady Eagles were able to pick up their first two wins of the season by defeating the Sparta Academy Warriors 4-3, and 4-3.

"We are excited, two wins and hopefully we can do more," said Scarlett McNaughton, coach of the Fort Dale Lady Eagles.

"It's right before our spring break and that's a really positive thing. We've only had a total of two hours practice this week due to the win. We did have some luck plays there, the girl got hit by the ball and was out and then we had some mishaps that were in our favor. "

"We won because of it. We won not only because of the errors but because we wanted it.

In the first game of the night, the Lady Eagles secured a 4-3 victory despite the Lady Warriors having runners on base.

In the second game, both teams were able to push runs across the plate and by the middle of the third inning had FDA trailed 3-2, but the Lady Eagles are able to string together a series of offensive at bats that allows them to load the bases and ultimately score the tying run.

Signs of the old Fort Dale softball began to show through in the top of the fifth inning when the Lady Warriors begin to put runners on base.

The Lady Warrior batter fought off several pitches from Fort Dale's Carrie Coker before finally putting one hit off the handle of the bat into play.

Fort Dale's catcher picks up the ball but her throw is errant and over the first baseman's outstretched arm, allowing the runner to advance to third base. That was as far as she was able to advance.

The very next at bat for the Lady Warriors, the batter hits a sharp grounder that rolls inside the foul line and straight into the cleat of the baserunner, allowing her to be called out.

But, the batter that made the initial hit was declared safe at first. The Lady Warriors tack on another run when Fort Dale's second baseman bobbles a hard hit grounder.

Despite having runners in scoring position, the Lady Eagles are still able to get out of the inning unscathed and through the four and half innings, the Lady Eagles and the Lady Warriors found themselves tied once again at 3-3.

But, the stalemate didn't last long.

Fort Dale puts a runner on to open the bottom half of the fifth frame. The runner advances to second. The Lady Eagles put another runner on board when Sparta's catcher is called for interference.

With two on and one out, Michelle Huleck hits a sky-high pop up straight to the second baseman, but the Lady Warrior can't hang on to it, allowing the ball to run down her glove and onto the ground, giving the Lady Eagles the opportunity to score the winning run.

The Lady Eagles next game is set for April 5 and will be played at Beeland Park against the Lady vols of Monroe Academy.
